Hello dear readers,

I apologize for this blog being so short, and for the delay in communication recently. I have been dealing with some health/life challenges lately, and I have been finding it difficult to connect fully with astrology. I intend on fully recovering, but my body has its own say in that process, and so time will tell. I was going to skip writing this New Moon, but have decided that I would still write a brief summary of what's been floating about in the heavens.....

The Virgo New Moon is an indication that the heat and intensity of Summer is slowly winding down, and we can feel this strongly down on a celluar level. Virgo has a soft and gentle quality, as well as innate sense of innocence. This is strongly reflected in many of the "softer" aspects included in this lunation (with the exception of the Pluto/Uranus square looming in the background). This soft and gentle quality strikes a strong contrast to some of the heavier, and seemingly darker energies that have been quite active over the past few weeks, and that are still present at this lunation. Fortunately, transiting Mars is making its way out of the "burning way", the section of the zodiac between 15 degrees of Libra and 15 degrees of Scorpio. This New Moon should assist in lifting much of weightiness associated with this dark alley of the zodiac, since Mars and Saturn conjoined in this vicinity back on August 15th.

Many of us are likely to find ourselves dealing with a lot of personal fears right now--and the universe is challenging us to understand just how much we can truly handle. Venus in Leo makes a trine to Uranus and Athena in Aries, offering radical creative insight which can be readily applied to problem solving, and truth seeking. Mercury, ruler of Virgo, widely conjoins the New Moon--and finds itself in the midst of the tension and chaos of the Uranus/Pluto square. Obviously, we are on the brink of a powerful reformation on a global and personal level--these are both challenging, and liberating times. The north node has recently shifted into Scorpio (as of August 30th), asking us to embrace personal and global transformation, to go deep within ourselves, and to truly connect with whats raw and real. There are a lot of "heavy" and challenging energies floating about, but fortunately, many of the aspects this lunation provide much support in dealing with it all.

Pluto goes stationary direct on September 17th, so get ready for this tidal wave of massive collective and personal power, which will gradually emerge over the next few months. It's time to get serious about what we want to transform in our lives--and it's time for each of us to take responsibility for our part in greater scheme of things. This is a time to be exceptionally conscious, to be mindful of your every move, and what's motivating you. Awake and aware we must all be, because we are choosing to dance on shifting sands. Where are we headed? Well, off the precipice of evolution, of course. To quote astrologer Stephanie Austin, in her reading on this lunation: "Evolution means going into the unknown, into chaos". This chaos, as unwelcome as it is to the human mind and ego, is an integral part of our reality; it is something we must all face, and choose to accept, throughout our journey of life.

The sabian symbol reads:

Mary and her white lamb.

This symbol speaks of the innocence and purity of the human spirit, and fits quite nicely with one side of Virgo archetype. Of course, Virgo isn't just the sweet and innocent "virgin", we all know and love. Virgo is the gateway to the chaos each soul experiences in its incarnation on earth, it is the threshold to the abyss. It takes a hefty dose of innocence, as well as naivete, for one to choose to face such an experience--but, face it we must--and what better way than with open and trusting arms, receptive to the unfolding.

New Moon In Leo 2012

New Moon @ 25 degrees Leo 08'

It's been quite a ride, hasn't it? Mercury's transition from retrograde to direct, as of August 7th, signifies the end of that tidal wave of retrograde influx which permeated the collective psyche since January. If you've made it this far, give yourself a pat on the back, or maybe a gold star or two. We are likely to have a little more direction and focus now, and instead of constantly revising plans, expectations, perceptions, beliefs, ideas, etc. etc.....we now have a chance to move forward into more productive and progressive directions.

Whew, well that's a relief. With that said, however, this lunation does not present us with some gilded path strewn with glitter and puffy clouds. This New Moon actually has a few rather challenging constructs, but now that the planets are stronger and more direct, these obstacles will not be so confusing or uncertain as they have been. In fact, if anything, these challenging aspects provide plenty of fuel to get things going and back on course.

Where you've likely experienced a ton of setbacks over the past several months, you will now find that the universe is much more congruent with your plans and expectations (even if that isn't apparent in the immediate moment)--and this will gradually increase over the next month. Do keep in mind, however, that whatever gets launched around this New Moon will require plenty of hard work and dedication to see it through. If you're really serious about it though, you'll find plenty of assistance from others who are just as determined as you are.

The main feature to this New Moon is a striking T-Square with Venus in Cancer and the Pluto/Uranus square. On one end, this definitely stirs up a lot of unpredictable and spontaenous dynamics within relationships. We are invited to open ourselves up to change, and to unusual and unexpected relations with others, maybe even people who challenge our comfort zone. This also stirs up a lot of relationship tension in general, whether romantic, business, or what have you--creating a bit of crisis between inner motivations and suggestions or pressures from others.

Venus has recently moved into Cancer, after spending about four months in Gemini. Venus places her emphasis on domestic concerns now, such as security, and protection. Where we may have really valued information and knowledge to a much greater extent, the collective emphasis is now drawn more inward, and more attention is placed on feelings and intuitions rather than that mental smorgasbord  we've been so consumed by.

That means we are more concerned with how things feel and effect us deeply, as opposed to whether they just sound good. The Venus/Uranus/Pluto T-square, also ignites all those rebellious and revolutionary impulses so inherent to the Pluto/Uranus square. In our personal lives, this lunation is likely to provide a lot of momentum to really get down and dirty, and create some drastic changes.

We are likely to be less tolerant of stagnation, and many of these "challenging" aspects presented here, can be used to kick us into high gear. On the world stage, this signifies plenty more unexpected events which greatly challenge our perceptions, and possibly our much valued security. A Mars/Saturn conjunction in Libra is a pretty heavy symbol, but equally productive. Again, if you're in it for the long haul, then these two powerful forces will be more than willing to help out. On the other end, these two planets can be quite dense in their effect, and many will find themselves facing deeply seated fears and uncertainties.

There is also an obsessive and grating quality to this lunation, which can be useful for really nailing things down, and getting to the bottom of certain problems or dilemmas we've been faced with. Processes we set in motion around the beginning of this year, are going to be strongly tested now, to see if they can really weather the storm. On the light side, however, the Mars/Saturn conjunction sextiles the New Moon, offering more support if we're open to it, as opposed to an intimidating confrontation (unless it's contacting a personal planet in your horoscope, of course, i.e. planets in Libra or Aries).

As this New Moon approaches just keep in mind that a powerful process is in the works, and right now it may seem like a lot of things are coming to an end. As we move and shift into this powerful lunation, there may still be much uncertainty, because so much has shifted over the past several months. We've accumulated a rather heavy load throughout the beginning of this year, and with all the immense retrograde activity, we are now ready to release much of the debris, to begin a new process.

Since Mercury has gone direct in Leo, there is likely this knowing that much of the experimentation and playtime has outlived it usefulness--there is likely a strong feeling of seriousness permeating the air, as if it's now time to get down to business. Again, the past several months allowed us to test the waters, so to speak, and after this lunation, we will find ourselves more driven and focused on seriously implementing things into our reality.

The New Moon in Leo ignites the power of the human will, the capacity to take charge, and create one's destiny.  It conjures up a surging momentum of great force, which urges us to march forward, fearless and strong, without hesitation. That's the ideal of course. Cross the bridge with confidence, and into the great unknown.

The Sabian symbol for this New Moon reads:

26 degrees Leo: "A Rainbow"

The rainbow is a powerful symbol throughout all cultures and mythologies. To the Judeo-Christian belief, the rainbow is a symbol of God's promise to never the flood the earth again. To the Buddhists, the rainbow symbolizes the highest state achievable before the complete annihilation of consciousness. In Greek mythology, Iris, was goddess of the rainbow, and messenger of the Gods, who flew about with golden wings delivering messages. To Australian tribes, such as the Aborigine peoples, the rainbow serpent is an androgynous creator god, progenitor of the world and all lifeforms.

The rainbow is often symbolic of a bridge from the realm of the physical, to that of the spiritual or "higher" worlds. It is a transitional symbol of moving from one state to the next. Scientifically speaking, everyone perceives a different rainbow, because no two irises are identical. We can look to the rainbow as a divine message, a portal, and bridging point to another level of reality, and one that each of us will experience in his or her own unique and individual way.

Full Moon Aquarius 2012

So, I've been having some health issues the past several days, which has rendered me quite disinterested in writing an article on the Full Moon this round. I apologize to those whom enjoy and follow my blog--I hope to be up to writing a full article for the New Moon in Leo on August 17th.

The sign of Aquarius is all about community and objectivity, and the Full Moon brings processes and situations to some kind of climax or culmination. In short, the Full Moon in Aquarius is a time in which we can gain a much greater awareness and perspective, and to also reiterate the fact that as human beings, we greatly rely upon a community of others to accomplish our goals, and to ensure our survival. We are all connected to each other, and none of us is truly on our own. Open your eyes to the greater web and network you belong to, and realize that there is probably far more support out there than you've realized. This can create a "unifying" type of energy, and a powerful unconscious drive to seek the support and safety of a larger tribe, community, or organization. Aquarius is also an archetype of acceleration--meaning that this Full Moon can greatly quicken and energize stagnant energies, moving things faster and ideally, more efficiently.

The Sabian symbol for the Moon reads:

"Man tete-a-tete with his inspiration"
A man literally head to head with realization and creativity.

For the Sun:

"Children on a swing in a huge oak tree"

New Moon In Cancer 2012

New Moon @ 26 Cancer 55'
July 18, 2012--9:24 PM Pacific
July 19, 2012--0:24 AM Eastern

Are we there yet?

This month's New Moon provides quite a shift and change of scenery--since we've been experiencing a powerful influx of Gemini lately, the New Moon in Cancer brings in some entirely new archetypal dynamics. We are still in the midst of Mercury's retrograde cycle, until August 7th--however, this New Moon provides loads of new energy potential and is perfect for planning highly significant changes of focus and direction in the future. Wait--what? More planning and waiting?  The key aspect configuration within this lunation is an extremely striking T-square--formed by an opposition with Mars in Libra and Uranus in Aries, square Pluto in Capricorn--so in other words, we are equally dealing with some rather intense and unstable energy patterns here. While coinciding with Mercury's retrograde cycle, this dynamic aspect structure could provide some challenges if not dealt with consciously. The first half of this year was incredibly fermented by the retrograde archetype--and it has probably felt like the world was turning backwards--into rather spontaneous and uncontrollable directions. With this Mars and Uranus opposition, which is rather exact, we may feel a compulsion to really break free of certain restraints and restrictions--which could also lead to argumentativeness and disputes with others if one is not cautious.

This particular configuration also occurs between planets occupying the cardinal signs of the zodiac, so there will be a strong inclination to radically transform solidified structures in our lives--and to truly liberate ourselves from the demands and restrictions placed by others. Further amplifying this construct, Uranus turned retrograde on July 13 (through December 13), just one day prior to Mercury going retrograde as well. So, while it may feel very compelling to make some drastic sweeping changes at this time--because we just can't wait any longer--do keep in mind, this is really more about brainstorming, reflecting, and adjusting than it is about taking decisive action right away. This New Moon presents us with a lot of pressure, which each of us will respond to in varying ways--however, also keep in mind that we are free to take our time here, to really consider options and choices over the next few weeks. There is also a highly creative process that is occurring now, allowing for entirely new ways of doing things to reveal themselves. Collectively and individually, this New Moon brings with it, the realization that something needs to change--that is for sure. At this particular juncture, there is no doubt that there needs to be a critical restructuring--however, we don't need to commit just yet. What is required with this lunation is more a process of nailing it down, and allowing ourselves to make some decisions, which is much welcome after a period of possible intense indecisiveness.

Keep your mind open, sense and feel your way through these seemingly uncertain and turbulent times. There is a powerful transition taking place within all of us, and we can utilize the higher potential if we are more receptive and patient. The asteroid Pallas Athena conjoins this configuration through a conjunction with Uranus in Aries. There may be some sudden and seemingly ingenious new ideas floating about that could strike when we least expect it--so it would be best to remain completely open to radical ideas and progressive realizations. Mid August through October will be a very energizing and far more productive window of time, since we will be clear of the retrograde frenzy which has swept the collective consciousness for roughly the past eight months. Use that time for implementing and launching certain plans and projects that have been simmering for so long on the back burner--you will find less obstacles and challenges standing in the way.

Use any or all frustrution with current circumstances as a powerful creative catalyst which can inspire instead of irritate--and keep emotions from getting carried away. We are reminded here that there is far more potential than we are currently imagining for ourselves and for the world--so break out of the mold, shatter those moribund preconceived notions, and embrace the coming tide of change and transformation which awaits just around the corner. Mars in Libra trines Jupiter in Gemini, and both are sextile, along with Venus in Gemini, to Mercury retrograde in Leo--consider ideas and perspectives from others, they may be incredibly helpful and reveal things you never thought possible. This may imply adjusting our perception of certain relationships, or reconsidering insight and feedback from the past that we may have shrugged off without considering its importance. Collectively, it will be interesting to see what will unfold once Mercury goes direct, especially on the political front. This New Moon feels like a leaky damn, with one crack too many. Once August comes around, watch out for the flood, it's going to be big. For the world, that simply means out with the old, in with the new. For us as individuals, just another step within a creative process--ok, well more like a leap.

So, just to reiterate, this lunation is ideal for strategizing and formulating various plans of action, and to get clear about the next steps that need to be taken. While many of us will feel just plain fed up with the way things are right now, the next few weeks will assist in bringing to light the best possible course of action. Also, the most critical changes that will take place during Mercury's retrograde cycle will occur entirely within ourselves--with a process of powerful deconditioning. Embrace the potential to really break free of deeply ingrained patterns and limitations which have been holding you back. Another interesting consideration is the fact that we are currently experiencing the peak of solar activity, via several coronal mass ejections. Along with Mercury retrograde, this could possibly accentuate the possibility of mechanical breakdowns and electronic malfunctions--so just be more aware of this. According to astrologer and founder of Matrix Software, Michael Erlewine, high solar flare activity often leads to many changes and transformative processes within ones identity, which can feel as if things are more uncertain and unstable than usual. To quote a facebook post, or blog from Micheal's page:
"One of the more difficult to detect (wake-up-to) signs of real change is the ennui or the dissatisfaction of assessing who I am and where I am at. One day I am just humming along in my little self-driven universe and the next I have somehow fallen out of it. There I sit once again, left high and dry while the tide of my current life apparently has decided to go out for a spell. What went wrong?

This then is where the gag reflex ‘not-to-panic’ comes in. My previous tendency was to madly try to cover up or over my emptiness, the nakedness I feel when I run out of satisfaction or happiness and come to a linear stop – the end of a line. How do I manage to forget each time that life is cyclical and not linear? Somehow it all just goes void and there I am, seemingly without a clue as to what has happened. When solar flares emerge, this experience of void-ness is very likely to occur at some point in the cycle of change."
Michael describes these times as a sort of time-out if you will, in which we are needing to deeply access who we are and rediscover a new path and direction for our lives. Mercury retrograde equally corroborates this advice as well--so don't feel guilty for possibly needing more down time lately, these changes are natural and cyclic.

The sabian symbol for the new moon reads:

27 Cancer: "A storm in a canyon"

This is a rather perfect image to describe the current solar storm activity, as well as the rather unsettling aspect configurations surrounding this lunation. While often chaotic and unexpected, a storm works to break things up and bring about a renewal of energy. A canyon is a natural formation often carved by a river over millions of years. Both a storm, and a canyon, give the sense of a natural disturbance which works to break apart some preexisting structure or formation.

Full Moon In Capricorn 2012

Full Moon @ 12 degrees Capricorn 14'
July 3, 2012
2:52 PM Eastern
11:52 AM Pacific

This month's Full Moon occurs in the tropical sign of Capricorn, closely conjunct that heavy and powerful god of the underworld, Pluto. This brings some dynamic attention to the Uranus/Pallas and Pluto square, which became exact last Sunday. This Full Moon brings a powerful urge to create big changes, to shift gears, and to restructure things in entirely new ways--it also brings a steadfast pursuit of truth--a tearing to the heart of things to find out what's really going on. The sign of Capricorn is usually quite determined to reach its goals, and with this configuration in the mix, it finds itself more rebellious than usual, and less tolerant of the "status quo". At the same time, all this energy fully supports that bottom line--cutting through all the crap to get to what's real. Be mindful of power tripping, pessimism, coldness, harshness, and simply rebelling for the heck of it--without any consideration of the bigger picture.

Mars finally enters Libra the day of the Full Moon, drawing more energy into the Cardinal Axis--and we are likely to feel slightly more momentum and energy going, as Mars moves out of Virgo, the sign of its retrograde cycle. While this is a much welcome change, Mars still isn't entirely comfortable in Libra, the sign of its traditional detriment--which really means that, impulsions to jump forward must contend with the concessions of others. While Mars is in Libra, there is more requirement for feedback, permission, and alternate perspectives--which requires a lot more negotiation and compromise than usual. Blazing trails these days may not work out so well for the lone wolf, so keep your mind open to the possibility for more co-creative ventures. Also, don't forget that we're currently in the midst of Mercury's retrograde shadow, with the actual retrograde beginning July 14th. So, in other words, don't fret about making those big decisions right now, even if it feels as if there's some heavy deadline to meet--because, for the most part, that urgency probably isn't what you think it is.

Another useful tip: Don't take yourself, or anything too seriously for the next few weeks--a lighter and more humorous apporoach will make things a lot more easier for everyone involved. Life is to be experienced--sometimes enjoyed, yes, but never really endured--ideally anyway. The Sabian symbol for the Full Moon reads:

"A fire worshipper" (13 Capricorn)

And, for the opposing degree of the Sun:

"One hand slightly flexed with a very prominent thumb" (13 Cancer)

Mercury Retrograde In Leo 2012

Mercury Retrograde In Leo
July 14-August 7, 2012

Every three months we have to contend with good old Mercury retrograde, the most well-known, and sometimes, dreaded of all astrological cycles. Why? Well, because, Mercury retrograde is quite ubiquitous , yet sneaky--you never know when or where it'll strike, and it usually does, when you least expect it. That's why it's important to be aware of it, to some extent at least--and to equally have but a modicum of understanding as to its nature, intention, and function. We've experienced quite a bit of retrograde activity amongst the inner planets the first half of this year--and just as Venus retrograde comes to a close, we are greeted by yet another, albeit more common, Mercury retrograde cycle. While Venus is much more subtle, energetic, and even quite spiritual in its effects, Mercury retrograde always manages to place our attention more towards the nuts and bolts of our tangible reality. The dark side: Mercury retrograde is notorious for throwing that cosmic wrench into our plans and expectations, so, the best advice, is to be aware of this and to simply allow yourself to be more flexible. On the physical level, Mercury retrograde can often, and most commonly, bring up all sorts of mechanical malfunctions--so again, as long as we're aware of this, we can choose to see this as the natural cycle to deal with such things, and try our best to not get so stressed out when certain things go awry. The purpose? To shed light on what needs to be adjusted so that it runs more smoothly in the future, and to bring our attention dynamically to things that have been neglected or overlooked.

The light side: Mercury retrograde actually gives us a break, in the sense that while we find ourselves in the midst of this cycle, we can choose to relax more and not take things so seriously. During Mercury retrograde you will find yourself way ahead of the game if you can understand that this is not an ideal time for moving forward with really important matters--in fact, it's the most dreadful time to find oneself aggressively pushing forward in an attempt to make things happen, or to be particularly attached to a specific direction or outcome. This means that we are likely to find ourselves more in a state of revision and reconsideration at this time, and the best thing we can do is to simply allow this process to happen, and try our best not to fight it. While Mercury is retrograde, the normal flow of cerebral energy is inverted, and so naturally, this has a "turning back" effect, in the sense that we are more in a state of reflection and introspection. With so many prominent retrograde cycles lately, these have obviously been very dominant themes already.

One other important consideration about Mercury retrograde is that it tends to challenge, and allow us to question, certain ideas and informational fragments we've been holding on to. So, naturally, this is an ideal time keep your mind wide open to new bits of knowledge, awareness, and input. While this has also been a prominent theme related to other planetary cycles coalescing at this time--Mercury retrograde, by nature, inherently reveals that we will never know it all, and that there are natural cycles in which this becomes increasingly clear, and brought more to our attention. I personally look forward to these cycles, because for me, there is always a new understanding about the world awaiting to reveal itself each time Mercury goes retrograde. This can lead to a process of adjustment so that we can fit this new awareness into our reality, which is why it is important to remain flexible while this happens. Overall, Mercury retrograde allows us to go back over things--and especially projects and plans we've been working on, so that we can find any kinks or loose screws that could potentially trip us up later on.

 Additional Mercury Retrograde Tips

  • Practice impeccability: be very clear and sincere when communicating with others--you may need to go over or repeat things more than once to make sure there isn't any confusion or miscommunication.

  • Double check all transactions and dealings, especially when it comes to money, and especially if the process is electronic. Don't just trust that things will work out or function as usual, it doesn't hurt to pay extra attention.

  • Go over things in your mind that you know need to be fixed, adjusted, or serviced--cars, computers, appliances, etc--before and during the retrograde. Mainly anything that you consider to be important for things to function more smoothly, or could be costly if broken down.

  • Avoid making serious or major agreements, such as signing contracts, or making big business dealings/decisions. Take this time to reconsider other options before jumping into action right away.

  • Keep an open mind when dealing with others, especially when it comes to opinions or advice--there may be much to learn that you didn't know or understand before. Practice humility and receptivity.

  • Be patient, just know that things are not going to flow or move as they usually do--so practicing patience by remaining calm if things "go wrong" can reduce a lot of unnecessary stress, anxiety, or confusion.

  • If you find yourself coming up against resistance in an attempt to make something happen, try backing off by allowing things to work out on their own.

  • Focus mainly on the "Re" prefix: any activity which incorporates doing something over, or making adjustments--all such activities are highly favored and will be successful: Revising, reworking, reassessing, revamping, reconfiguring, resettling, reverting, refurbishing, reapplying, reassembling, reassociating, reattaining, refocusing, remembering, regrouping, reclaiming, repairing, reducing, replacing, reconnecting, rekindling, etc......

  • Keep a sense of humor, and approach things from a more playful mentality--this is the natural time to experiment without much attachment to the outcome. Allow yourself to be guided more now; you will be surprised with where things lead you and how they end up.

Mercury Retrograde In Leo

While Mercury goes retrograde in Leo, there's this collective revision and adjustment of personality and creative self-expression. Other common themes inherent to Leo is our innate human need and desire for simply enjoying the moment, letting it all hang loose, and indulging in a little fun--you only live once, right? Well, maybe we live more than once, but life is limited, finite, and as they say: If there's one guarantee in life, it's death--and taxes, although I'd say even that can be evaded in someways. Anyway, While Mercury is retrograde in Leo, this aspect of life is likely to come to our attention in one way or another, and allow for some pertinent adjustments to take place. Perhaps we've been taking things way too seriously lately, and need to loosen up, and enjoy ourselves a bit--and perhaps our own unique personal style has become stale, rigid, and routine--well, it's time for spicing things up a bit. Conversely, perhaps way too much time has been spent living in the present, and indulging in immediate desires and gratifications. Mercury retrograde in Leo could knock some sense into the whole situation, or seriously rain on your Leonian parade. Which ever end of the spectrum one falls--creativity, the enjoyment of life, and how we share ourselves dynamically with others--takes center stage.

Mercury retrograde in Leo redirects our attention toward the development of entirely new and creative directions, not only in our own personal style, but also in the way we navigate our own lives. The first half of this year presented us already with a tremendous amount of adjustment, revision, and direction changing--re-routing consciousness toward the awareness of entirely new potentials within ourselves and within the world around us. This retrograde cycle can be seen as a powerful bridging point, and one that will guide us playfully and creatively toward solidifying that next major step or possible breakthrough in our lives. We may find ourselves hesitant now, since before things have really only been visualized or speculated--but after this cycle is over, there will be a powerful jolt of momentum, allowing for a lot of movement and productivity we've all been waiting for. Obviously, this process will vary quite considerably for each of us, and will manifest in varying levels of significance or impact--but overall, we will all feel this energy in some way or another--and most definitely within the collective.

Take this time to deeply reflect on the past several months leading up to this point, and look for patterns within your own individual process. What's been holding you back now? What's keeping you from being who you want to be? While Mercury is retrograde in Leo, it's best to test things out, play with various ideas a bit more--and see how they feel and radiate within the core of your being. When Mercury goes direct, feel free to step out, take center stage, and utilize your innate willpower to assist in creative actualization. Allow this retrograde to be the vehicle towards a stronger utilization of talents and abilities, as well as a powerful manifestation of potential. The effects of Mercury retrograde manifest during both shadow periods, as well as the retrograde itself. Whatever transpires during the initial shadow, will likely be reworked and further developed during the actual retrograde--and finished up or completed at the final shadow.

New Moon In Gemini & Summer Solstice 2012

New Moon @ 28 degrees Gemini 43'
June 19, 2012
11:02 AM Eastern
8:02 AM Pacific

This is the second New Moon to occur in Gemini this year--the last was a Annular/Partial Solar Eclipse on May 20th. This New Moon also occurs just one day prior to the Summer Solstice, and so this reading will reflect the nature of both events--as the energies surrounding this New Moon will carry over for the next three months of the Summer season. The Gemini archetype is extremely active at this time, and we are likely feeling this impulse quite strongly. In addition, Jupiter is joining the party, moving into Gemini on June 11th. All of this activity in Gemini places immense emphasis on the mind, and each of us will respond to this influx in varying ways. We will likely feel more mental and or intellectual at this time, as this energy ignites our innate human curiosity and inquisitiveness--driving us deeper to understand the world that surrounds us. Traditionally, however, Jupiter is not quite at home in Gemini, the sign opposite its rulership--placing Jupiter in detriment. Jupiter is an explorer, it likes to expand and visualize, whereas Gemini and Mercury inherently attempt to confine and classify data and information to see how it can fit with a consistent picture or understanding of reality.

However, these two archetypes can work together. The Jupiter/Sagittarius archetypes reminds Gemini/Mercury that there is always more to the puzzle than the pieces right before it--essentially providing the fuel and impetus for its inherent inquisitiveness. Jupiter in Gemini allows for a freeing and liberation from the distortion that comes as a result of attaining a particular bias, opening the psyche to a greater awareness and viewpoint. When one is solely focused on certain pieces and fragments of a particular perception of reality, we can't quite see the forest for the trees. Jupiter in Gemini can allow for more input and more pieces to suddenly fall into our lap--but only if we're open to it. The more we cling to a limiting set of beliefs or ideas now--the more confusion and cloudiness is likely to creep in, and we can very much end up overtly idealizing things way out of proportion. This is a time for a greater perspective and understanding rooted in common sense and rationality. If you find yourself a bit flustered, or feeling anxious, just remind yourself to quit taking things so seriously--in fact, if there's one prominent feature to Gemini, it's a playful lightheartedness.

With the previous Gemini influx we've been experiencing, this New Moon in itself, allows for a greater digestion of input, and a means for exploring and experimenting with information. Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, is in Cancer square Saturn retrograde in Libra. We are challenged to feel our way through thoughts and ideas at this time, and to also become more receptive and open to input from others, which may very much challenge our sense of security and safety. This also allows for a powerful solidification of a stable knowledge base and foundation from which we can work and draw from in the future. Jupiter and Venus retrograde conjoin the South Node in Gemini--there is a strong reservoir of experience from the past that we can pull from now--in fact, this is likely a time where our memories and past lessons are playing a more prominent role in our current understanding.

Pay attention to your dreams, there is a lot of processing going on within the collective unconscious--this is tantamount to a collective mental purging--filtering and dumping out stored information. With Venus retrograde, many of our dreams could deal with people and places from our past--in this life or another--and this process has likely been quite noticeable for the past few weeks--and will likely continue throughout the Summer season. Jupiter and Venus retrograde on the nodal axis form a T-Square with Chiron in Pisces. Gemini is a sign of duality, and Venus deals with the Anima within, which is a Jungian term to describe the primordial female archetype. Chiron allows for a balancing and stabilizing of Anima and Animus--however, if negatively expressed, we can experience a confusion or crisis of sexual identity with these forces. Equally, this could allow for a stronger connection to the feminine and even masculine aspects of our being, to see where either of these two polarities are in imbalance and in need of integration. This could also provide the impetus to find hidden gifts within the parts of ourselves that we perceive to be flaws, wounds, or disowned constructs.

Another side to this energy is a strong feeling of uncertainty and indecisiveness--feeling pulled into two antithetical directions. This New Moon, and Summer solstice, provides a powerful opportunity to find a reconciliation and a greater clarity on a particular direction or viewpoint. The New Moon occurs at 28 degrees of Gemini, which makes this an Anaretic New Moon--which means that it occurs within the last two degrees of a sign. Prominent anaretic placements mean that "something is about to explode"--and this New Moon signifies a very significant shift and transitional type of energy. Obviously we can interpret this in many ways, and if this lunation conjoins a prominent natal placement in one's horoscope, there could be a powerful breakthrough or transformation as a result. Now, I'm not "into" politics--I pay attention to certain things going on, but I am not that invested emotionally or intellectually in the whole political side show. With that said, we can anticipate this Summer to be--well, quite interesting on the global political stage, and we can equally anticipate a lot of shifts and changes to take place.

For me, these signatures feel as if things are indefinitely changing in the way we perceive politics on a collective level. In the New Moon/Summer Solstice horoscope, we see Uranus and Pluto within minutes of a square (exact on June 24th). Everyone has been talking about this aspect, and I'm sure many of you are well aware of its nature, so I will spare repeating what it means too much here. This configuration has been historically shown to correlate with massive revolutionary uprisings which includes the whole arsenal of public protests and demonstrations. The root of this archetypal configuration is basically a collective obsession with "change", and if people are unable and unwilling to change and transform themselves, they will project it on to something or someone else. In my perception, the world stage is a reflection of our own psyches collectively, and in reality, what we don't like up there is equally within each of us. This Summer is likely to ignite and kick off the potential of this cyclic mingling between Uranus and Pluto--which will further expand and amplify many of the movements that have already emerged, such as Occupy Wallstreet, etc.

In the U.S. there is an upcoming election this November, and so logically this Summer is a prelude and transition to that event. In looking at the astrological configurations it is clear what the universe is saying: Things are not what they seem, and the old ways are not going to work anymore--we need to start looking deeper, and to apply more critical thinking if anything is ever going to change. Now we can all interpret that statement in our own way, and through our own personal bias and perception of reality. In my opinion, the whole template we've been working with is corroding--and I don't think change is going to take place within the current model we've been working with. We are being asked to explore new dimensions of existence and of being--and to throw out the old moldy ways of doing things. In looking back at the mid to late 1960's, we must understand that what happened then is not the solution now--it's outdated. The ideas and revelations which developed at that time need to be critically challenged and transformed--we must take things to the next level. Relying on the "good old days" just isn't going to work, and is not going to lead to effective change.

So what would that look like?Well, I'm not quite sure, I'll leave it up to the unfolding to figure it all out. All of these configurations lend quite well to a powerful creative potential--and it is this creative potential that is really a big theme to this New Moon and Summer Solstice. It's time to really think outside of the box, and to equally trust your feelings about new input and information, to discern what's really going to work, and what's just plain delusional. With Venus retrograde as a major player in all this, and with Jupiter in Gemini square Neptune in Pisces--there is a lot of idealism floating around, which can cloud common sense and judgement, or it can challenge the mind, popping it wide open to the influx of higher insight and creativity floating around in the ethers. Question everything now--Questions yourself, and most of all, question reality on all levels. This Summer holds the potential for a powerful spiritual and creative revolution of sorts, and there is a lot of potential energy ripe and ready to explode. Keep your mind wide open to new, innovative, and unusual ideas about life--this is a time to experiment, and to equally break out of rigid concretions.

Sabian Symbol

The New Moon occurs at 28 degrees Gemini:

"The first mockingbird of spring."

Here we get the sense of new beginnings, as spring brings with it new signs of life, and new potential for growth and development.  Equally, a mockingbird can actually mimic the songs and sounds of other birds, insects, and amphibians--which hints to the notion that what we perceive may not be what we think it is, or it may not originate from what we assume is the real deal. In another sense, this images asks us to deeply question our assumptions about what is or isn't possible. Perhaps one's goals are too lofty and idealistic--or perhaps too limiting, static, and confining. The mockingbird is a symbol of mutability, flexibility, and transformation. We also get the sense of taking on and playing a different role or persona, which allows for a critical adaptation to the surroundings of the environment. This symbol speaks to us of a new process in the works, and a powerful mutation within the day-to--day surroundings.

The Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice
June 20, 2012
4:09 PM Pacific
7:09 PM Eastern

As I stated above, the energies of the New Moon and Summer solstice will coalesce with each other. This Summer is going to be quite interesting in a collective sense, and there will likely be much going on politically, socially, culturally, and economically. The Sun, of course, sits at zero degrees of Cancer, but this year, it also conjoins three rather interesting midpoints: Mars/Pallas, Mercury/Venus, Mars/Uranus. The two midpoints involving Mars can lead to sudden and unexpected initiative and action, rooted in a strong desire for change. The asteroid Pallas also cojoins Uranus in Aries, and so we can anticipate this Summer to be fermented with a strong surge of rebellion and a demanding of truth, justice, and liberation from restraint. In our personal lives, we are likely to feel this very strongly--a powerful urge and desire to break free and to further align ourselves with truth and authenticity. This is the most ideal time for breaking out into new and spontaneous directions--however drastic or subtle. It symbolizes a powerful tipping point, as certain things will no longer be tolerable, and many will likely feel a strong urge to do something about it.

The Mercury/Venus lends quite well to artistic/creative pursuits, which will also likely play a very critical role on the world stage somehow--you know how truth and beauty are closely aligned. This Summer is going to kick off several years of much political and cultural instability, transformation, and upheaval--it is quite likely that things are going to be quite different from this point onward. We have already seen much of these energies play themselves out, but things are really going to get kicked up a notch right after the Solstice. The Summer Solstice represents a sprouting forth and emergence of processes that began at the Spring Equinox. Our lives very much parallel the Solar cycle itself, and whether we're conscious of it or not, we are bringing forth new creations into reality each and every year. Take a look at what emerges now, because this is the time to shape it, mold it, and solidify it into something tangible and real. On the day of Summer Solstice, the Sun reaches it's highest point in the sky, and also happens to be the longest day of the year. This Summer is likely to set many things into motion, and will provide plenty of fuel and momentum to take needed action, and to make drastic and lasting changes. Drop that old, moldy, and stale routine--open yourself to the influx of transformational change, and let in some much needed fresh air.

Partial Lunar Eclipse In Sagittarius 2012

June 04, 2012
6:12 AM Eastern
4:12 AM Pacific

"The Archer's strategy, in a word, is to live life as an adventure. He must surrender all notions of safety. He must willingly set aside any idea or opinion as soon as he sees himself hiding behind it. He must go unhesitatingly forward, expecting miracles, forever ready to perform that classic Sagittarian masterstroke: the leap of faith."
-Steven Forrest, The Inner Sky

The Annular/Partial Eclipse of May 20th culminates into a Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius on June 4th--just one day prior to the Transit of Venus on June 5th/6th. With this strong emphasis in Gemini, we are greatly influenced by the mind--and likely feel a strong impulse toward the acquisition of greater knowledge and information. The Solar Eclipse, square Neptune, also had the potential to plunge consciousness into a fit of existential crisis, confusion, and intense paranoia--and equally, to allow for the expression of deeply rooted emotions, letting it all hang out. Primarily, it seems these symbols offer the opportunity to transcend our limitations, related mostly to ideas and preconceived notions. Venus retrograde conjoins the Sun, in opposition the Lunar Eclipse--pulling us toward the past in all its multitude of forms--"past lives", past relationships, old connections, memories, situations--and also, the uncovering and resurrection of talents and abilities left dormant or long forgotten. We are likely to find ourselves involved in all sorts of karmic time loops, for reasons that are probably beyond all rational understanding.

Mars in Virgo forms a rather prominent T-Square to the Lunar Eclipse, adding a bit of potential conflict and stress. Trying to attain absolute perfection is in itself, a futile attempt--whatever it is. We are imperfect beings in an impermanent and (if you haven't noticed yet) imperfect world. Don't get stuck beating a dead horse--leave it alone, and let it rot. What awaits us here, at the brink of this Eclipse, is the opportunity to see our attempts not as entirely pointless and futile, but rather, apart of a larger co-creative process we may never fully comprehend or understand--and in reality, we don't need to. As humans, we offer our experience, our creations, and ultimately, we offer our awareness to the universe at large. This Eclipse is, needless to say, expansive--it offers the message of needing to be totally open, vulnerable, and naked to the unknown and the unfathomable dimensions of existence. If this Eclipse is prominent for you (mainly by a conjunction to a significant natal placement or angle of the birthchart)--it invites us to take some risks, step out of the comfy and predictable, and to take on an uncharted horizon--and to also find some practical applicability for various thoughts, ideas, theories, or opinions.

In Carlos Castaneda's The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge, Don Juan reveals to Carlos the four "natural enemies" one must defeat to become a "man of knowledge". These can be summed up as: Fear, Clarity, Power, and Old Age. It is the first two which concern us here. In Don Juan's own words:

"When a man starts to learn, he is never clear about his objectives. His purpose is faulty; his intent is vague. He hopes for rewards that will never materialize for he knows nothing of the hardships of learning."
"He slowly begins to learn--bit by bit at first, then in big chunks. And his thoughts soon clash. What he learns is never what he pictured, or imagined, and so he begins to be afraid. Learning is never what one expects. Every step of learning is a new task, and the fear the man is experiencing begins to mount mercilessly, inyeildingly. His purpose becomes a battlefield."
"And thus he has stumbled upon the first of his natural enemies: Fear! A terrible enemy--treacherous, and difficult to overcome. It remains concealed at every turn of the way, prowling, waiting. And if the man, terrified in its presence, runs away, his enemy will have put an end to his quest."

Carlos asks.....

"And what can he do to overcome fear?"

"The answer is very simple. He must not run away. He must defy his fear, and in spite of it he must take the next step in learning, and the next, and the next. He must be fully afraid, and yet he must not stop. That is the rule! And a moment will come when his first enemy retreats. The man begins to feel sure of himself. His intent becomes stronger. Learning is no longer a terrifying task."

-- "But won't the man be afraid again if something new happens to him?"

"Once a man has vanquished fear, he is free from it for the rest of his life, because, instead of fear, he has acquired clarity of mind which erases fear. By then a man knows his desire; he knows how to satisfy those desires. He can anticipate the new steps of learning, and a sharp clarity surrounds everything. The man feels that nothing is concealed.
"And thus he has encountered his second enemy: Clarity! That clarity of mind, which is so hard to obtain, dispels fear, but also blinds."

Hmm, I wonder how this could apply to humanity at this time, at our current juncture of "evolution"?. As I stated above, this Eclipse occurs the day before the Transit of Venus--which has an indefinite effect on the evolution of our current scientific paradigm. It seems that, intellectually, and scientifically, we have achieved this illusionary sense of "clarity", as the current consensus paradigm seems to uphold this idea that we have somehow conquered our fears of the irrational realms of the psyche and of nature itself. In regards to clarity, Don Juan continues:

"It [clarity] forces the man never to doubt himself. It gives him the assurance he can do anything he pleases, for he sees clearly into everything. And he is courageous because he is clear, and he stops at nothing because he is complete. If the man yields to this make-believe power, he has succumbed to his second enemy, and will be patient when he should rush. And he will fumble with learning until he winds up incapable of learning anything more."

"What becomes of a man who is defeated in that way, don Juan? Does he die as a result?"

"No, he doesn't die. His second enemy has just stopped him cold from trying to become a man of knowledge; instead, the man may turn into a buoyant warrior, or a clown. Yet the clarity for which he has paid so dearly will never change to darkness and fear again. He will be clear as long as he lives, but he will no longer learn, or yearn for, anything."[Castaneda, The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way Of Knowledge, 83-85]
Upon reflecting on this Eclipse, I was reminded of this passage from the first of Castaneda's books. I feel it speaks for itself. This Eclipse invites us to keep in mind that we never truly stop learning. Just when we think we've made it to that final point, that end-all higher perspective, we realize that the rabbit hole just keeps on going--and going, and going. Neptune turns direct shortly after this Eclipse, allowing us to peer a little more deeply behind the veil of illusion--to see further into the mechanization of the numinous. Mercury forms a trine to Saturn retrograde in Libra--if we've done the required reading and necessary critical thinking, a lot of things can seemingly come together now. This also lends well to staying practical in the midst of such expansive visionary tendencies.

The sabian symbol for the Lunar Eclipse reads:

"The groundhog looking for its shadow"

I'm sure we're all familiar with this symbol. Traditionally, on Groundhog day, if the groundhog "sees" its shadow and is frightened by it, it foretells six more weeks of cold winter weather. Conversely, if it's cloudy out, and there is no sunlight to cast a shadow--then spring will arrive early that year. Groundhog day occurs on February 2, while the Sun is in tropical Aquarius, a sign associated with foreknowledge and visions of the future. The 1993 film Groundhog Day, starring Bill Murray, was the story of a man who awoke each morning on the same day (Groundhog day), over and over again--trapped in a ceaseless time-loop. Each day he would retain his memories from the previous day, but everyone else in his reality would go about, the same as usual. Bill Murray's character, Phil Connors, is a self-centered meteorologist, who eventually opens his heart, and is transformed into a compassionate and humble individual. Throughout the film, Phil's darker tendencies escalate, and he even attempts to kill himself several times, which actually works, that is until he wakes up the next day alive. After a while though, the constant repetition gives way to a sort of spiritual awakening and transcendence of his personal perspective and to a greater awareness of the needs of others.

On a spiritual level, the film suggests going through something over and over until one is able to completely transcend it. If encountered with such a phenomena, one is likely to feel like a victim at first, but that will only lead to more and more of the same thing. It seems the movie has a powerful message about life itself as a spiritual journey, and reveals that through repetition we learn to eventually let go of who we think we are--leading to complete transformation. The symbol of Groundhog Day itself, suggests anticipation of the future, of changing events or circumstances, and of planning and preparing objectives and goals. Now, in opposition to the Lunar Eclipse, the Sun's symbol reads:

"Two Dutch children talking"

Interestingly, the Groundhog day festivities, in Pennsylvania, are spoken entirely in the Pennsylvania German dialect--and supposedly anyone in attendance whom speaks only English has to pay a penalty of a nickel, dime, or quarter for every word spoken--throwing it into a bowel at the center of a table. Perhaps these symbols together suggest learning another language, whether symbolically or literally--or learning to speak a common language. We get a sense of facing one's shadow, over and over until a new dawn emerges. Combined with the other symbols inherent to this Eclipse, we get the sense of needing to expand beyond self-interest and familiarity--and to be receptive to foreign and unknown levels of reality and life experience. Never stop learning, never cease growing, we're all here for a reason--and while it may not make much sense at times, even feeling rather futile--there is a greater process at work here, which is completely beyond our individual imaginary perceptions.

Transit of Venus 2012

An anthropomorphized depiction of the Transit of Venus June 6th, 1761, conjoined Mercury--By Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr. First published in Atlas von hundert Charten 1712 & reprinted in Grossen Atlas 1716.

A Transit of Venus is a rare astronomical/astrological event which occurs along alternating cycles of 129.5, and 113.5 years. For the most part, the Transits of Venus occur in pairs, eight years apart. For example, the last TOV cycles (I will be using the abbreviation 'TOV' for succinctness), occured in 1874 and 1882. The most recent TOV event occured on June 8th, 2004 at 17 degrees tropical Gemini--the second of the pair will occur June 5th/6th, 2012 at 15 degrees tropical Gemini. So....what is it? Visually, from our perspective, a TOV is when the planet Venus literally passes over the Sun, causing what is known as an occultation--which is similar to what happens during a Solar Eclipse, when the Moon passes over the Sun, blocking out its light momentarily. Unlike a Solar Eclipse, however, Venus is much smaller in its apparent diameter from our geocentric perception, because, it's further away than our neighboring moon--so instead of a large black object blocking out the Sun's light, we see a tiny dot drift by--not enough to really notice without foreknowledge--but certainly unique enough to get Astronomer's and Astrologer's panties in a twist of anticipation. If you're into Astronomy and observing astronomical events, then this is an experience of a lifetime--because the next TOV cycle won't occur until Dec 11, 2117.

Some More Technical Jargon

If you want to get really technical with the TOV and the Sun/Venus synodic cycle, I will have to recommend Nick Anthony Fiorenza's excellent and thoroughly detailed article on the TOV cycle here, complete with excellent visual diagrams.

Only Venus and Mercury will produce this type of phenomena, because they are the only planets to lie within the Earth/Sun boundary. A TOV is the byproduct of a very complex, yet, beautifully precise and symmetrical cyclic process. The phenomena results from the Sun/Venus synodic cycle, which is a cyclic conjunction (alignment) of the Earth, Sun, and Venus. These conjunctions result in essentially two different flavors, known as Inferior or Superior conjunctions--which additionally correlate to the phasal relationship of Venus to the Sun. Just like the Moon, Venus has New and Full phases. An Inferior conjunction is when the Sun and Venus appear to conjoin, and Venus is on the side facing the Earth (New Venus). A Superior conjunction would occur when Venus is on the non-visible side of the Sun, away from Earth's perspective (Full Venus). A quick glance at the following visuals should help make this clear.

A TOV is a unique Inferior conjunction, because it is additionally in line with the ecliptic--the path that the Sun appears to make as it moves through the sky. Just as the Sun forms the Ecliptic, Venus has its own path, which intersects or is angled with the ecliptic, creating what are known as nodes, which are meeting points along the circle--and there are two--a north and south node.Whenever the Inferior conjunction occurs, and is aligned with either of these nodes, a TOV event occurs--which as I stated earlier, only happens twice within alternating cycles of about 130 and 113 years apart.  In a nutshell.

My pocket astrologer tells me that this year's TOV will be visible in northwestern North America, Hawaii, the western Pacific, northern Asia, Japan, Korea, east China, Philippines, east Australia, and New Zealand.

Image courtesy of HM Nautical Almanac Office
For those in North America, we will not be able to see the transit in its entirety because it will be setting with the Sun while still in progress--for central Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and east Africa, the TOV will already be in progress as the Sun rises. The Gemini/Sagittarius Axis

For the past two thousand years, the north node of Venus has been in the tropical sign of Sagittarius, while the south node has been in tropical Gemini--and thus each TOV to occur in the past two millennium have alternated between these two signs. The last occurred in Sagittarius (1847 & 1882). The recent pair (2004 & 2012) takes place in the sign of Gemini, at 17 and 15 degrees respectively. This is because each pair will alternate between North and South Node alignments every century, and will repeat in roughly the same vicinity every 260 years. So, essentially, the last TOV to occur in Gemini was 1761 & 1769. Yea, it's pretty confusing. So before I go any further here, let's "define" the axis of Gemini and Sagittarius a bit:

The Gemini archetype essential deals with information gathering, and governs all forms of communication either verbally or written. Gemini is the acquisition of facts, details, ideas, and knowledge--usually without much attachment to the end result--making Gemini inherently inductive and subjective. Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, is the construct of the "monkey mind", this is the aspect of our consciousness whose job is to make sure everything is in place, that the system is running smoothly, and to let us know otherwise. When given too much command, this monkey mind keeps us constantly on high alert--and we are taken out of the moment, and into a cyclic and seemingly endless mental loop--which has us constantly fixated on whatever stimulus is within our immediate environment, so that it can acquire more information about it, which essentially lets us know that things are all and good, and there's no threat to survival. Gemini primarily governs the concerns of the immediate environment, and its rulerships include: books, teaching, public speaking, writing, analysis, research, primary education, intellect, learning, literature, mechanics, mathematics, studying, translating--essentially anything that can help make rational and logical conclusions about the immediate and apparent reality.

Sagittarius, on the other hand, deals with the dispersion as well as synthesis of information--which makes it inherently objective and deductive. Sagittarius deals with the bigger picture and the larger perspective--taking us out of the immediate, and focused on the more all encompassing point of view. Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius, is the construct of the "higher mind", which is a more zen-like state of consciousness expansion--which lends more to experience, that is, being, as opposed to doing. It is from this more heightened and objective viewpoint, in which we can make sense of the information gathering impulsed by Gemini and Mercury. Sagittarius governs expansion, moving beyond the immediate and familiar, which lends its ruler-ship to all forms of travel and exposure to foreign experiences that are beyond, and which challenge, Gemini's rational safety net. Sagittarius rules all forms of "higher learning", which today incorporates "higher education", such as college, and all forms of spiritual and religious institutions--as well as the spreading of ideology on a large and global scale. Sagittiarus primarily governs the concerns of the larger whole--the holistic understanding of the unity and intelligence which pervades our limited and individualistic perspective. Because of this, the Sagittarius archetype is concerned with the essential truth, the final conclusion which sums it all up into a concrete and unified understanding. In our reality, Sagittarius crystalizes itself as laws and legal matters, exploration, faith, foreign affairs, importing and exporting, ideals, philosophy, abstractions, politics, preaching, wisdom--basically anything that can "sum up" the immediate experience and to place it within a larger of more cohesive framework.

Now, in looking at historical events which transpired around these cycles, it is very clear that the theme of Gemini/Sagittarius is undoubtedly fermented.  However, trying to make rational sense of what the TOV actually "means", is a bit challenging, and rather quite mind boggling. Of course, there are a few ideas floating around, but after studying this subject for quite some time, I've refused to confine it to any specific meaning. One could argue that great "discoveries" are unveiled to the world, leading to an "improvement" in our daily lives, and a more encompassing perspective of the world. This certainly seems to be the case. However, I must make something clear here. I don't completely believe in history--well, at least the historical narrative as we understand it, and are given today. But, it is interesting that the cycles of the TOV through these two signs has literally correlated to the creation of History itself. The TOV cycles began occuring in Gemini/Sagittarius around the supposed "birth of christ", around 60 AD.

Interestingly, the TOV of 60 AD took place at the heart, or very center of the Sun (most events skim either the top or bottom of the Sun--so this is an extremely rare occurrence). The time of Christ is said to correlate with the creation of our modern day calender and dating system. We could also look at this time as the beginning of "History" as we understand it, that is--our current linear perception of historical events as plotted along the Gregorian calender. This system began a process which further segregated humanity from the natural timing and rhythms of the planets and stars, confining perception to this sort of synthetic mimicry. History was mainly written by the elite and ruling class of the time--which meant, those who were educated and could actually read and write. So, needless to say, we can assume some sort of bias and a distortion of certain facts were involved here. It is interesting though, that throughout the cycles of the TOV within Gemini and Sagittarius, that these abilities (reading and writing) have become more accessible and widespread throughout the world over. I would argue, however, that the "elite" still control our perception of history to this day--through the creation of a consensus version of the nuts and bolts pertaining to certain events that the majority of the population readily accepts as "fact".

Regardless of this, however, if one were to merely look at these events through an archetypal lens, we can get the gist of its significance--as a symbol for a shift in the collective consciousness. Looked at quite simply--Venus pertains to our ability to relate to others (Libra), as well as our inherent values and what we identify with (Taurus). It seems that, inevitably, while the TOV occurs in the signs of Gemini/Sagittarius we are collectively focused more upon mental pursuits, and thus verbal and written communication/philosophy/mathematics are placed upon this pedestal, and seemingly have the most influence in shaping the world. We just seem to value these things above all others. Gemini and Sagittarius are all about communication within our immediate environments, and on a larger global scale. Key inventions and ideas are developed and brought to the general public at these times, which have greatly impacted our every day existence in modern society. What follows is a brief and general outline of what are considered significant historical events, as they are accepted within the consensus perception of history, beginning with the 12th century. Many of these events, works, discoveries, or inventions are expanded upon or transformed at a proceeding TOV cycle.

  • The 12th Century brought the onslaught of the Crusades, where Christians and Muslims fought for the "Holy Land".
  • The University of Paris is founded in c. 1150 (Oxford is founded in 1163).
  • In c. 1136, construction of Abbey Church of St. Dennis, which was the first prototype for the Gothic Architectural movement, is begun by Abbot Suger--and consecrated in 1044. In 1149 Abbot Suger wrote an account describing the building and design of St. Dennis. The visual impression or resonance invoked in the Gothic style of architecture relies upon the interplay of strong dualities or opposing constructs.
  • Abelard wrote Sic et Non (Pro and Con) in c. 1130, which is considered an early manifesto of Scholastic Philosophy. God's creation of the world was seen as a literal fact, and it was believed that true connection to God could only take place through logical and ordered reason, and through the faculty of rationality. This was entirely antithetical to earlier traditions, which saw that connection to the divine was an emotional or somatic experience.
  • In 1150, The Troubadours (lyrical poets) flourished, Leonin is a composer at Notre Dam, and Adam of St. Victor wrote hymms with St. Bernard of Clairvaux.
  • Zen Buddhism reaches Japan from China
  • Perceval, the story of the Grail, is written by Chretien de Troyes and other French authors--transforming the King Arthur legends into stories of "Courtly love". (Some, however, place both Lancelot and Perceval around 1270).
  • In Cambodia, the city and great temple of Angkor Wat are created by the Khemer dynasty--today, the temple is considered a symbol of Cambodia itself, appearing on its national flag.

  • In the 13th century, at age Seventeen, Marco Polo sets sail on a journey to Asia in 1271, which was supposedly the inspiration for Christopher Columbus. Marco Polo is believed to have greatly influenced European cartography, which paved the way for later explorers.
  • In 1274, The Mongols invade Japan, supposedly fulfilling a prophecy made by Nichiren, a Buddhist Monk.
  • In 1273, Thomas Aquinas writes Summa Theologiae (Summation of Theology), this work is seen as an attempt to synthesize the dualistic Gothic thought presented at the previous Transit of Venus, and is essentially a reconciliation of Abelard's Pros and Cons.
  • By 1275, Scholastic philosophy is at its height. The scholastic philosophers attempted to bridge the ideas of Aristotle, and the "received" teachings of the bible.
  • On or around May Day of 1275, Dante meets 8 year old Beatrice, just one year younger than himself--she becomes his muse and inspiration throughout life. His courtly love for Beatrice continues until they meet again nine years later. At their second meeting, Beatrice, accompanied by two older women, walk by Dante on a street in Florence, and upon acknowledging his presence, Dante is filled with overwhelming joy--and consequently, inspired to write his first sonnet La Vida Nuova. Many scholars dispute the actual existence of Beatrice, claiming that the numerological coincidences are just too much to be true, such as Dante's life orchestrated by periods of 9 years. From an astrological perspective, Dante would have met Beatrice while Venus was just about the turn retrograde, during the initial shadow period. Whether true or not, this period marks the creative spark that fueled Dante's later works, such as the Divine Comedy. The Transit of Venus would have occured roughly 24 days after their first meeting, and the second Transit of Venus occurred one year prior the second meeting and the creation of La Vida Nuova.  Interestingly, Courtly love was popularized from the works written on the Grail Quests, published by French authors at the previous Transit of Venus.

  • In the 14th century, the development of mechanical clocks, leads to the precision and timing we schedule our lives around today. Each hour became a fixed and finite construct within a 24 hour period. Today, it's hard to imagine there was a time when, time itself, was less definite and more fluid and mutable--quite a shift in perception. This also presented a major schism, separating our notion of time away from astronomical cycles toward a more abstract mathematical concept.
  • In 1386, the Salisbury Cathedral Clock is constructed--and still works to this day, it is claimed to be the oldest functioning mechanical clock in the world.
  • Geoffrey Chaucer, heralded as the father of English literature, completes Troilus and Criseyde, and also begins writing the Canterbury Tales at some point in early or mid 1380's. Chaucer's work is credited with the shaping of vernacular literature--building upon the work of Dante--who interestingly, was inspired at the previous Transit of Venus--and was one of the first European writers to promote literature in the vernacular. Vernacular literature was written for the "common people", in other words, not written in Latin, and was accessible to those who weren't versed in the language. At the time, Latin was the language of the elite, educated, and aristocratic--Chaucer's tales can be seen as a pivitol landmark in making literature, and subsequently, education available to a much larger audience throughout Europe.

The Storming of the Teocalli- by Emmanuel Leutze, 1848

  • Just prior to these TOV cycles, Christopher Columbus sets sail on his infamous 1492 voyage to "Japan", which incidentally, leads him to the Bahammas Archipelago. Although not the first to actually discover this region of the world, this contact created a permanent connection between Europe and the Americas (or the "New World").
  • Magellan, for the first time, circumnavigated the world, proving the earth to be round. This event is credited with finally overthrowing the delusional and fashionable idea that the earth was "flat"--leading to what is now considered a major paradigm shift in western perception and a collective knowing that the earth is actually round.
  • The Protestant Reformation begins in 1517, led by Martin Luther, and the ideals of the Northern Renaissance. Martin Luther taught that the word of God could be found from the bible itself, as opposed to the Church and Roman Catholic doctrine. This lead to the translation of the Scriptures from Latin, to the languages of the common people (Vernacular scripture)--Luther taught that in order to understand God, one needed to study and acquire knowledge--and believed that "God's knowledge" should be accessible to all. This also led to the vandalism of many churches, and the stripping down and simplifying of Church decoration.
  • Hernan Cortes, proceeding Christopher Columbus, and along with an armada of eleven ships, arrives in Mexico in April 1519. This is indeed one of the most interesting events of this period. The discovery of Mexico introduced to the world a large bulk of common foods we enjoy today, and which made their way into various cultural recipes (tomatoes, cocoa, potatoes, peppers, sugar, maize, pumpkins, squash, sweet potatoes, kidney beans, pineapples, strawberries, persimmons, peanuts, alligator pears, cassava, quinine, copal, balsam, turkeys--and although not edible, rubber). Additionally, the Conquistadors, while of course hell bent on converting the Mexican people to their religion, were also extremely enticed by the large reserves of Gold they found there, which made Spain incredibly rich, well, for a while. The sacred texts of Mexica predicted that Quetzalcoatl would return from the East in the year 1 Reed, exactly when Cortes arrived, and so they believed he was actually a god. Similar to the colonization of North America, the native peoples of Mexico had literally never seen white people, ships, or even horses--imagine what that would have felt like, and taking into consideration the prophecy made, the armored conquistadors would have truly been seen as Gods. This was what brought Catholicism to Mexico, and led to the destruction of many sacred texts and monuments, and a permanent alteration to their culture forever.
  • As a result of Spanish contact with Mexico, chocolate arrived in Spain in 1528 in the form of cocoa beans, or cacao--a substance we would indefinitely associate with the goddess Venus. The Spanish nobility mixed the beans with sugar and spices, supposedly Cortes's own idea, leading to the western ideal of chocolate we have today--it was kept secret from the world until the following Transit of Venus a century later.
  • Around 1518, Baldassare Castiglione writes The Courtier--considered one of the most important works of Renaissance literature, and one of the most widely circulated texts of the 16th century--it was published in 1528.
  • Roughly four years prior to the Transit of Venus of 1518, Nicolaus Copernicus circulated a manuscript known as Commentariolus  (Little Commentary) to close friends and colleagues--this was the prototype for On The Revolution Of The Celestial Spheres, his master work--which was published roughly forty years later in 1546. This is considered the epiphany which ignited the scientific revolution, as well as the birthing of modern astronomy. The "Copernican Revolution", as it is now known, led to an entirely new paradigm and worldview for the western world. The earth was no longer the center of the universe, and was now envisioned to encircle the Sun, leading to the death of our geocentric worldview--and the rise of the materialist scientific paradigm we know today. This period also signified a significant schism which further segregated astrology from astronomy. For western civilization, this very idea is considered the genesis of our modern world view--completely displacing human perception forever.
  • Some historians also claim that Australia was first "discovered" by a Portuguese expedition in 1521.

  •  In 1628 William Harvey discovers the circulation of blood, and along with William Gilbert, publishes Treatise on Terrestrial Magnetism and Electricity.
  • Coinciding within a day of a Full Moon in Gemini on December 8th, the first Transit of Venus of 1631 seemingly foreshadows the dawning of overt rationalism to the western world--one of Gemini's greatest attributes.
  • Galileo is called before the Inquisition in 1633 for his researches and confirmation of the Copernican theory of heliocentricity--which as we now know, began its quiet circulation at the last Transit of Venus.
  • Springing from the "scientific revolution", ignited a century prior, this was the first Transit of Venus ever recorded by Western astronomers.
  • With man no longer the center of the cosmos--the western ideology shifted toward the realization that the world could be understood based on logical and orderly principles--and thus the very forces of nature, once only known through a mystical, subjective, and romantic lens--could now be controlled, calculated, and predicted.
  • Roughly ten years prior, the Mayflower, carrying British colonialists, lands on Plymouth rock, and similar to the Transit of Venus of the 16th century, results in the colonization of a new land--and the subsequent invasion and slaughter of the native peoples.
  • Chocolate, which was brought to Spain by Cortes at the previous Transit of Venus, is introduced to French nobility when (according to one theory) Spanish Princess Maria Theresa is bethroned to Louis XIV--this leads to the "chocolate craze" of 1650 in France, influencing eroticism in art and culture.
  • In 1637 Rene Descartes published Discourse on Method--the origin of the infamous phrase, "I think therefore I am", or as he would have actually said, "Je pense, doc je suis". Discourse is seen as one of the most influential philosophical works in all of history. He also publishes Geometry that same year--which is the origin of the Cartesian corrdinate system.

The Boston Tea Party- From Young Folks' History of England, Charlotte M. Yonge

  •  In 1759, Voltaire publishes Candide, which is considered his "great work", and is the most widely circulated text in all of French literature.
  • The Transit of Venus in 1761, led to the creation of the AU, or astronomical unit, which derives from the distance of the Earth to the Sun. This opened an entirely new paradigm, in which astronomers could now accurately measure and define the universe.
  • Jean-Jacques Rousseau publishes The Social Contract in 1762, which essentially contains ideas similar to those found in the American Declaration of Independence--this also greatly influences later revolutions throughout France.
  • This period correlates to the birthing of the Industrial Revolution, which began just prior to the TOV events themselves. This was mainly ignited by the "invention" of Electricity in 1752.
  •  After arriving to the United States in 1755, the first chocolate factory opens in 1765, leading to accelerated production. Chocolate drinks were associated with intellectual discourse and gambling, and were touted as an alternative to tea due to heavy taxation--drinking coffee and chocolate became a patriotic duty in America, as a result of the Boston tea party in 1774--which, incidentally, led to the American Revolution. Thomas Jefferson is quoted as saying: "The superiority of chocolate, both for health and nourishment will soon give it the preference over tea and coffee in America which it has in Spain."
  • In 1768, Captain James Cook, sets sail on his infamous voyage to Tahiti, to record the Transit of Venus of 1769--this led to the supposed first contact with Australia and its indigenous inhabitants. (Interestingly, as noted above, some historians claim that this was not the first contact with this region of the world, and that a Portuguese expedition had previously discovered Australia within the time-band of the 16th century TOV in 1521).

  • In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell is awarded a US patent for the Telephone, and thus a new paradigm of long distance communication is born.
  • This period is associated with the commercialization of the light bulb--a symbol we now associate with "good ideas". Miniature incandescent lamps, now commonly seen on Christmas trees and suburban housing around the holidays, were first recorded in 1882.
  • In the late 1830's Quantum mechanics begins its pivotal development--and in 1877, one of its founders, Ludwig Boltzmann, declares that the energy levels of a physical system could be "discrete"--this is a pivotal turning point in the development of Quantum physics.
  • In 1878, the Phonograph is patented by Thomas Edison, after its creation in 1877. This was the first invention to reproduce recorded sound.
  • The refrigerator is invented in 1876
  • In 1881, the California Gold Rush begins (a frenzy and fervor quite similar to what impulsed the Spanish to conquer Mexico at the TOV of the 16th century)
  • Greenwich Mean Time and time zone are established in 1884.
  • The process for creating Milk Chocolate is invented by Daniel Peter in Switzerland in 1875, bringing to symbolic culmination, its transformation from a drink to a confection in the 1830's.
Now, the last TOV occured in 2004, which was the same year that Facebook was launched and made accessible to the public. Youtube is unveiled in 2005, and both Twitter and Wikileaks in 2006. Ever since the TOV cycles of the 17th century, technology has seemingly accelerated in its evolution beyond belief (Uranus was discovered just after the 18th century TOV cycle).  This is quite an interesting realization, in light of the fact that our last TOV of this cycle occurs in the year 2012. There are a lot of theories about 2012, most of which center around the idea of the end of the world--or more abstractly, the end of history. Using the Chinese lunar calendar (the I-Ching), and a heroic dose of psylocybin Mushrooms, Terance McKenna concluded that 2012 was when humanity will be released into this sort of, "Transhistorical space". McKenna developed Novelty theory, and postulated that after 2012 the world would be perpetually saturated in endless novelty and "innovation". Interestingly, in the 80's, McKenna concluded that, at the time, we could have no concept or understanding of what this would look like around the year 2012. Well--now we do. In my opinion, McKenna was the most in tune with what 2012 was all about--it's not the end of the world, but rather, the end of history and time itself, and in a way, the death of accentuated individuality. So far, the most influential new creations are co-created by groups of individuals, and are leading to co-creative processes at an accelerated rate.

From this perspective, our world is going to become more and more saturated with technology and inventions--and will be created and manufactured faster and faster. Today, right in synch with the TOV cycles of 2004 and 2012, global communication happens in the blink of an eye. Back in Chaucer's day, it was a breakthrough that the common person could read a book, none the less write one--and now your average Joe has merely to turn on his I-pad or Nook. The fact that I am able to publish my own material here, and share it with thousands of people instantly on my personal blog, reveals just how complex this process has become. Of course, this whole perspective is not just described by the TOV cycle itself, and there are many other astrological factors involved here (specifically the mutual receptions of Uranus and Neptune). So the next question would be, where is all this going? I can't really answer that exactly. While these inventions have certainly made life "easier", they have equally segregated humanity from nature, and have eradicated our awareness of functionality. I would say, ideally, 2012 marks a synthesizing point--a clash between our primal ancestry and the emergence of transhumanism. If we continue at this pace, it seems that human beings will, inevitably, become machines. Most people these days are plugged into some device, and since the recent invention of smart phones and ipods--everyone is completely immersed in this technological feast and orgy.

The Transit of Venus Horoscope

It seems we are entering a collective backlash to this accelerated process, and interestingly, the TOV of 2012 squares the planetoid Chiron, forming a rough T-Square involving Mars. Now, Chiron was discovered in 1977; and a lot of interesting things occurred around that time. One of the most interesting, was this greater collective awakening to the earth, to the body, and to the cosmos. Chiron holds the "key" to the system--that is, the physical matrix which supports and sustains us. It represents the tending to the basic needs which nourish the system so that it functions properly. Chiron is also the threshold between the organic & "inorganic" worlds--between the living and the "dead". The outer planets, those beyond the Chironic point, are the layers beyond the seen or visible world. Uranus, the first archetype we encounter beyond this threshold, is the vibration which begins the mutation of organic matter into inorganic material (what all natural systems within the Chironic point would perceive as toxic i.e. radiation, synthetic drugs and chemicals, microwaves, wifi, GMO foods, etc.).

Wherever Chiron transits in the horoscope it tends to pierce open our "wounds" or vulnerabilities--to bring our attention dynamically to what needs nourishment and support based on its needs. To do this requires knowledge of the system, how it works, and how it functions based upon its design and intention. This system thus creates stability and reaches gradual homeostasis through time--through repetition and consistency governed by Saturn/Kronos. The square from Chiron indicates the existence of a blind spot at our current juncture of "evolution", indicating that the origin of these collective wounds will be difficult to trace--especially if we include Neptune in all this. Pallas Athena conjoins Uranus in Aries, square Pluto conjunct the Moon in Capricorn. There will be many new ideas and solutions that will be conjured by the "common" people, that will have the influence of completely altering the very foundations of the entire system and structure. Mercury, ruling the TOV, sits in an exact opposition to the Galactic center of the galaxy--perhaps indicating a higher dimensional transmission is taking place.

Transpluto at the anaretic (29th) degree of Leo, forms a T-Square with Juno in Scorpio and Jupiter conjunct Ceres, and Lilith in Taurus. The most influential paradigmatic shifts of this era will center around the uncovering of the true relationship between mind and body--and the secrets of health via proper nutrition which is rooted in an understanding of an expanded knowledge of natural intention, and revelations pertaining to our ancient ancestry. These signatures have a wild and primal feel to them, connecting us to our most raw and natural roots; these will have a great influence, surprisingly, upon many paradigmatic works as well as the creation of art. The Moon conjunct Pluto reveals our current potential to completely destroy the very foundation of the earth, and we are, in a way, given a choice to return to the wisdom of Gaia, or you could say--emerge into another form, not in this dimension. Essentially our choice is to return to the wisdom of the body and the planet, or become assimilated into the inorganic realms--so I guess you could say, that would be our gradual "Ascension" into the 4th density. At this time in history, the ideal would be a collective synthesis of scientific rationalism and archaic primal mysticism. The sabian symbol for the TOV reads:

"A woman suffragist orating"

This is quite an interesting symbol, perhaps the woman is the Earth herself, demanding our collective attention. Suffragist derives from suffragette, which is a 'female supporting the cause of a women's right to vote'. Orating relates to Oratory, which is the art of formal public speech. This symbol suggests the image of a woman, demanding attention and focus through a formal verbal dialogue.

Personal Application

Please see my article on Venus retrograde for an expanded understanding of the Venus/Sun synodic cycle, and it's impact on the individual natal horoscope. Basically, the Venus retrograde cycle has the most significant impact, individually, when it is either stationing retrograde, or stationing direct over a significant natal placement. So, what happens if the Transit of Venus itself takes place at a significant planet or point? Well, a similar principle would equally apply--only it is likely to be much more "paradigmatic" than just the retrograde influence. This could involve the processing of immense "karmatic" issues in an individuals life, leading to extraordinary shifts and changes of perspective. This could also involve a process of making highly influential new relationships with others who indefinitely play a significant role in all of this. The specifics of this process will, of course, vary based on the individual, and their unique natal configuration. The events are likely to unfold over a peroid of several years, whenever there is some kind of trigger by either a transiting, progressed, or directed planet. Below are some examples in regards to the 2004 Transit of Venus:

*Due keep in mind, however, that the Transit of Venus in 2004 occured in wide opposition to Pluto in Sagittarius--which greatly amplified its influence. In other words, in these examples, the positions in which the TOV occured, were simultaneously activated by Pluto, which lends quite a bit to transformational changes--especially if occurring on a major angle of the horoscope. With that said, it is also apparent that significant events transpired whenever the TOV position was activated, and so for me, it undoubtedly played a significant role beyond Pluto itself.
Mel Gibson- Roden Rating: B

The TOV of 2004 conjoined Mel Gibson's South Node at 17 degrees of Gemini, also situated on the midpoint of Jupiter and the Part of Fortune. That same year, Gibson released Passion of the Christ, which raked in over $600 million during its theatrical release, stirring up quite a bit of controversy along with it--it is credited as the highest grossing non-english film ever made--and at the time, the highest grossing R-Rated film in history. Interesting how this film connects us to the past (The infamous and paradigmatic story of Christ), when we consider his South Node, and the TOV/Venus retrograde symbolism. The same month that Venus crossed this area again, in July of 2006, Gibson is arrested on DUI charges (Driving under the influence=Gemini South node?) which led to his infamous anti-semitic statement that "Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world". Now, that sounds more like the Gemini south node. Interestingly, on the exact day of the incident (July 28th), the transiting Moon in Virgo was square the nodal axis. Take note that Transiting Pluto in Sagittarius (1994-2008) had recently crossed his north node, which was a time of considerable religious and political ideological tension in the collective media.
Oprah Winfrey- Roden Rating: A

Oprah Winfrey experienced the TOV conjunct her natal Jupiter at 16 degrees Gemini (Involved in a Grand Air Trine with Mercury and her Midheaven). In September of 2004, she ended up giving away 276 brand new fully loaded Pontiacs to her audience members, priced at $28,000 each. On the day the show aired, on September 13th, the transiting Moon was Square the Jupiter/TOV position. Jupiter is all about expansion, and sometimes, grandiose generosity. When she unveiled her surprise, Oprah was jumping up and down screaming: "Everybody gets a car! Everybody gets a car!". That same year, Oprah films an episode of her show entitled, Oprah's Christmas Kindness, where she traveled to South Africa to raise awareness of young children stricken with poverty and AIDS. Visiting schools and orphanages, Oprah gave Christmas presents to 50,000 children. From this, Winfrey invests $40 million to establish the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. The show ended up raising over $7 million from supporting viewers around the world. Additionally in 2004, Forbes international rich list announced Winfrey to be the world's first black women billionaire in world history, and also from 2004 to 2006, she was listed as the only black billionaire on the planet.
Tiger Woods- Roden Rating: AA

The TOV of 2004 conjoined Tiger Wood's natal Mars retrograde in Gemini. In November of 2003, he became engaged to former Swedish model Elin Nordegren. In October of 2004, they were married in Barbados, with transiting Vesta Square Mars. In November of 2009, The National Enquirer publishes a story that Woods was having an affair with Rachel Uchitel, a New York City night club manager--a claim which she denied. Transiting Mercury was in opposition to Mars, and the secondary progressed Moon was within one degree of square to the same position. Two days later, Woods crashes his Cadillac into a firehydrant, a tree, and some hedges--on his own street. In late November, Woods announced that he would not be playing in any other tournaments in 2009, due to his injuries. In December 2009, Woods releases a statement admitting to "transgressions", and over the next several days, over a dozen women claim to have had an affair with Tiger. On Dec 11, 2009, he released a statement that he would be "taking an indefinite break from professional golf"--the secondary progressed Moon was now at 17 degrees of Pisces. Over the course of several months, various companies withdrawal their sponsorship with Tiger including Gatorade, AT&T, and General Motors. On August 23, 2010, Tiger and Elin officially divorce--transiting Mercury retrograde is at 18 degrees Virgo, square his natal Mars retrograde--and Solar Arc Neptune is within orb of an inconjunct with Mars as well. Mars retrograde, in symbolism, has an indefinite "burn out" effect, with which things begun under its influence eventually fizzle out.
*Additionally, Tiger began his professional career as a golfer in 1996, the same year that his secondary progressed Mars turned direct.

Now, obviously, we're not all wired like celebrities--and planetary cycles only set off, or push our natal potential into motion. Here are two private case examples:

Jenine experienced the 2004 TOV just one degree from her descendent (7th house cusp) at 18 degrees Gemini. At the time, she was living in Maryland, with a well paying teaching job, and a relationship. She explained that although her life was stable, she felt stagnant and unhappy with the way things were. That summer, right after the TOV itself, Jenine's life completely changes direction. After living on the East coast her entire life, she lands a job in California, and relocates where she currently resides. She ended her relationship shortly after. Everything happened all at once, and she said that things just worked out and it all just came together. Jenine describes this time as the most pivitol turning point in her life, and the start of an entirely new chapter. She met her current husband roughly a year later, and they were married in June of 2007. On the day of their wedding, transiting Jupiter and the Moon conjoined her Ascendent, striking an opposition with the TOV placement.

Ann experienced the 2004 TOV conjunct her Ascendent, within one degree, at 16 degrees Gemini. Early in 2004, Ann decided to close a mini spa she had operated for 12 years, explaining that the work lacked meaning for her, and that it had become boring and frivolous. In May of 2004, she gave birth to her daughter. She decided to move in with the man who fathered her child, and so ended up selling her house that August, and moving her three children (she has two boys) 2 1/2 hours away into the city. She has since left her daughter's father, and now lives in the country with her children and two cats. She equally describes this time as a significant turning point and new chapter.

*In all of these cases, there were, of course, other significant astrological factors activating these horoscopes, but again, it is obvious that the point in which the TOV occurred was a sensitive zone thereafter.

Annular Solar Eclipse @ 00 degrees Gemini 21'
May 20, 2012

I've really struggled writing this article, in fact, I've gone through about three different versions. This eclipse feels really significant--it's not the most powerful eclipse, based on the rules, but it is quite interesting and unique. I found myself, in previous versions of this article, attempting to articulate the whole "2012" transition we're about to embark upon, because this Eclipse connects us to the Transit of Venus event (in June), which I believe, was a major factor in the Mayan calender prediction. I've since realized that I don't know anything about 2012, or the Mayan calender. Sure I've read some books, articles, listened to lectures, and all that--but I don't really understand it. I've never taken to a serious study of the subject--and while I've spent many hours contemplating the whole thing, and have had some "mystical" revelations about it at various points in my life--I can't say that I really feel confident in explaining what it's all about. Every time I started writing, my process led me into making some kind of conclusion about it all--and I've realized that I can't, I don't think anyone can. That's a major theme to this eclipse--it's this complete disintegration of our ideas, beliefs, and delusions about what we 'think' reality really is--and a simultaneous expansion and awakening of entirely new realities and possibilities.

I guess here I go again, coming to some conclusion.....so, maybe a part of 2012 is just what I said. We're entering an era where it actually becomes less certain about what we know. In our current modern paradigm, we're led to believe that science and technology has led us to this pinnacle of knowledge and awareness--but actually, in many ways, it's entirely the opposite. It would take an entire book to elaborate on that statement, so I won't. In the mainstream New Age, we're led to believe that were embarking upon the "Ascension" of the planet--bathing us all in this sort of abstract notion of love and light. I don't know, I guess if that's what you want to believe, and it works for you, then there it is. In the mainstream "consensus" ideology (if you can classify it as an ideology), we're told it's the "end of the world", and la de da--that whole doomsday apocalypse thing again. And then we succumb to this sort redundant comparison of it all to Y2K, and then most people sort of shrug it off as some crazy media hype, or just another way for people to sell some books, produce sub-literate films, and make lots of money--which, in way, is partly true. Still, for me, there's something really significant about it, something really, actually, quite profound--and it's pretty damn elusive.

The truth is, nobody knows what 2012 really is, because it's mostly an experience, not really an ideological construct. I think Terence McKenna was probebly the closest in getting some idea actually. Apparently, using the Chinese lunar calender (I-Ching), McKenna concluded that 2012 was a significant marker in time, or rather, that it somehow symbolized the end of history, and in a way, time itself--prior to even knowing anything about the Mayan Calender end date. As someone who studies and practices astrology, it's a bit hard not to take notice, we're witnessing some of the most profound astrological configurations in recorded history. So is it the end of the world, the end of time, or the Ascension of the planet? I suppose, in a way, it's all of those things--and it's all a matter of perception. I don't really believe the masses are going to become enlightened, whatever enlightenment is. I see, well, the opposite--I see the world, like McKenna said, slipping deeper into "novelty", and so for me, that's likely a deeper sleep than has already taken place--as we become increasingly more saturated with the distractions of technology. For the general populace, it is unfortunately, a seemingly ugly prospect and future in many ways--there's nothing really too spiritual about it. These are challenging times, and no amount of love and light is going to change it. I have to ask the question though. Who are we to change it? Really? What if all the woes and sorrows of the world were merely apart of the process, a process that's actually, working in our favor. From our limited and narrow perception, we can't see the bigger picture--we just see the shadows. We have also lost our faith in the universe, in the concept of a higher power--since we're surrounded by so many examples, historically, and currently, of the corruption of authority and power on so many levels.

In Buddhism we learn that "all is impermanent, all is without a self". What that means is that, whatever we attach ourselves to, will eventually get taken away. This is a world of impermanence. Everything around us is dying. Now, for some, that might sound depressing--so love and light is a more appealing prospect. Upon deeper inspection, actually, it's quite liberating. It liberates us from our attachments to the impermanent. In really understanding this concept, we are freed from the "wheel of suffering", we escape the confines of the illusion of life and death--and thus, the inevitability of sorrow. When we look at pain and suffering, we see only the illusion, but we don't see the bigger picture--that really, for whatever reason, it's apart of the divine unfolding--it's actually a step in the process of reaching enlightenment. From this perspective, we can see that whatever is falling apart, decaying, and dying, is simply in the process of moving toward a more authentic state of being. In other words, the universe is taking care of it. In all ancient mythologies, there's this notion of descending into the underworld, and returning on the other side renewed.

Many of these myths often involved a goddess, such as Ishtar or Innana--which are all references to Venus. This process was also transposed upon the Solar cycle, such as at the Winter Solstice, when the Sun disappears for three days in the extreme northern latitudes. When Venus reaches an inferior conjunction with the Sun, which occurs during the Transit of Venus this summer, she also disappears for three days. This process was symbolized as a death and resurrection--not really on a literal level, but more so in an archetypal, and even psychological way. What it symbolized, as Joseph Campbell often described, was the "shattering". It was this realization that in order for one to reach their true authentic state, and thus, truly become enlightened and experience the bliss of all existence, they had to be "torn apart"-- broken open. All the external decor has to be stripped away, completely. This process, the opening the psyche, the softening the ego, is also mirrored in the classical shamanic mythos--of the shaman entering the underworld, and becoming dismembered.

There's this deeply ingrained human desire to create the perfect utopia on earth--it was, obviously, the root of the "American Dream"--but, the American dream, like all delusions, must some day be shattered, torn apart, to reveal the true heart of the matter--the truth of existence. For me, 2012 is sort of like that--it's a collective shattering--which, you could say, leads us eventually to bliss. We can't create a utopia here on earth, it doesn't exist, and even if it did--it wouldn't last. All is impermanent, all is without a self. The ideals we aspire to aren't really in this dimension, they're somewhere else, and solidifying them is not really what being here is all about. We're here to become apart of the unfolding, apart of the process. We're here to get torn open--and any pain we experience is our resistance to the truth--the truth that nothing is real, and everything is an illusion. So if 2012 signifies anything, it is, for me, a collective ego death of sorts--which could be beautiful and ugly, depending on where you stand. So there it is, I have succumb once more to making a conclusion of 2012--I suppose that's my mind's inability to accept the unknowable--at least a collective ego death still makes things concrete and definable.

So, after that digression, let's take a look at the horoscope of the Eclipse. The eclipse falls at 00 degrees of Gemini, conjoined the central star of the Pleiades, Alcyone. There are actually two New Moons in Gemini this year, another in June, at 28 degrees, the day before the Summer Solstice. With Venus Retrograde, and the Transit of Venus in Gemini, there's a lot of emphasis on Gemini here.  The Gemini archetype essential deals with information gathering, and governs all forms of communication either verbally or written. Gemini is the acquisition of facts, details, ideas, and knowledge--usually without much attachment to the end result--making Gemini inherently inductive and subjective. Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, is the construct of the "monkey mind". This is the aspect of our consciousness whose job is to to make sure everything is in place, that the system is running smoothly, and to let us know otherwise. When given too much command, this monkey mind keeps us constantly on high alert--and we're taken out of the moment, and into a cyclic and seemingly endless mental loop--which has us constantly fixated on whatever stimulus is within our immediate environment, so that it can acquire more information about it, which essentially lets us know that things are all and good, and there's no threat to survival.

Gemini primarily governs the concerns of the everyday environment, and its rulerships include: books, teaching, public speaking, writing, analysis, research, primary education, intellect, learning, literature, mechanics, mathematics, studying, translating--essentially anything that can help make rational and logical conclusions about the world and the environment itself. We can anticipate all these themes to be prominent at this moment, and especially as we enter the beginning of Summer. This is a south nodal eclipse, which means that it occurs near the South Node of the moon, roughly 5 degrees away. There's a difference between a North Nodal, and a South Nodal eclipse--one deals more with accumulation (North), and the other deals with emptying and releasing (South). In Gemini, what this essentially means, is that we are receiving a collective transformation of past mental constructs, ideas, knowledge, information, and all that Gemini inherently is. Don't be surprised to find yourself redefining what you know about the world, and letting go of what no longer fits right, or what's been keeping you from seeing things clearly. We felt this similar impulse with the Pisces New Moon back in March--and this Eclipse signals a major shift, challenge, and transmutation of those issues we were introduced to then.

The Solar Eclipse forms a T-square formation with Neptune in Pisces, and the North Node in Sagittarius conjunct Juno in Scorpio. This is a time to really challenge our perceptions, to essentially shatter various delusions, and to get really clear about which direction we're taking, or where we're essentially heading. Eclipses bring about powerful changes and transformations--mostly for those of us who are personally effected by it in our natal chart--or also, if you happen to be a Gemini Sun sign, you're likely feeling it deeply on some level--I know I am. Jupiter and Mercury in Taurus are also widely conjunct the Eclipse. This Eclipse has a lot to do with letting go of limiting perceptions about what's really possible in our lives, allowing ourselves to become more flexible and open to new horizons--to expand our awareness of what we're able to do. On a collective level, this Eclipse has the potential to be extremely creative, inspirational, and rather spiritually liberating. On the negative end, the more resistance one has to "the way things are", or the "way they see it", the more darker shadow material will get revealed, creating more confusion, and possibly intense paranoia--feeling hopeless and directionless.

The best advice: embrace the mutable nature of Gemini--which is inquisitive and open to new ideas, concepts, and information. Again, on the collective level, look out for misleading information, propaganda, and delusional ideologies fermented with a spiritual overtone. There's a powerful possibility of getting swept up by various causes and movements which are really directionless and lack perspicacity. Passion is generally a good thing--it brings greater depth and meaning to our lives. When one allows passion to take control, especially misguided passion--one misses the forest for the trees, and inherently lacks the bigger picture. When it comes to this Eclipse, think before acting, speaking, and coming to solid conclusions about the way things are--there might be more to this whole thing than we initially assume. That's a critical understanding for the world right now, because of so much political and economic tension in the air--which is only going to increase this Summer all the way through 2017 with the Uranus/Pluto square getting ready to explode (June 24th).

This is a time for "revolution"--but as I always say, the real revolution starts with the individual, and a powerful process of de-conditioning ourselves from what isn't real. There's no better time than this Eclipse to receive powerful insights and new ideas about how to go about that--so, remain open and mutable--the Gemini way! These signatures, also, unfortunately, foreshadow a lot of collective delusion in regards to this "revolutionary" spirit. It's not that people aren't justified for wanting change, it's just that, well--it's really hard to see whose running the show right now. In other words, trying to get clear about "the man behind the curtain", is a bit like playing with Russian dolls--there's just endless layers leading to more dead ends. Just when we think we've found the answer, that is, the "root" of the problem, there's just another layer, hiding in the blind spot. But, with that said, people will do what they need to do. In fact, if there's one thing I've learned about life in my mere 26 years or so of living, it's this: We don't get what we want, we get what we need. Everyone is getting and doing exactly what they need to, because it's all apart of their own process. The less attachment there is to any kind of end-result, the easier it will be to remain flexible and open to the unfolding. Allow this to be more of a heuristic process, that is, a gradual and slow unfolding of awareness over time. This is a time to challenge our personal and collective perceptions, and to keep on searching for that elusive, yet powerful hidden truth.

Now, as I mentioned above, the Eclipse is in alignment with the Pleiades star system, specifically Alcyone, the central star. I'm not an expert on the influences of the fixed stars in astrology--it's kind of sad really, since the word Astrology conjures images of stars. That's sort of the way it is, or well, the way it's becomes. Tropical astrology, the art I'm practicing here, is pretty devoid of stars--which is actually changing, and will likely re-emerge with the help of pioneering practitioners and researchers. Hmm....maybe this Eclipse has something to do with that? When I think of the Pleiades, I think of the Pleadians--I don't really know any, personally--well, that I'm aware of. Pleadians are supposedly beings from the "5th dimension", that is, two steps above our own. According to The Pleadian Agenda by Barbara Hand Clow, and Bringers of the Dawn by Barbara Marciniak--these beings are assisting us in this current transition, and "Ascension" process somehow--helping to essentially wake up and activate our dormant DNA and, thus, human potential. I can't say that what the Pleadians say is true or not--it sounds good, well some of it. Anyway, it's interesting though, because the Pleiades was pretty significant to the ancients, particularly the Maya. It's not even really that bright--it's actually quite faint. You need to really look for it to see it. Along with the Transit of Venus, this Eclipse, for me, brings in more of this "2012" type energy, which as I "concluded" above, is this sort of collective ego death and resurrection thing.

Alcyone, the central star of the Pleiades, means: the central one. Simple and logical enough. The Pleiades star cluster as a whole, are also known as the "seven sisters", or "weeping sisters", since, while there's actually nine stars, only seven are visible to the naked eye. The Pleiades forms part of the constellation of Taurus, the Bull. In Greek mythology, Alcyone was the daughter of Aeolus, God of the wind. She was married to Ceyx the king of Thessaly-- son of Lucifer, the light-bearer. Alcyone and Ceyx we're pretty happy together, they were madly in love, and never spent any time apart. Suddenly, however, Ceyx decides to leave Alcyone, for a while, and set sail across the sea. Alcyone begged for him to stay or to take her with him--but, although deeply moved, he persisted in pursuing his purpose (whatever that was). The following night after his departure, an intense storm breaks out, and ends up sinking the ship, killing all on board--including, dear Ceyx. Meanwhile, Alcyone awaits back at home, counting down the days of her lover's return. She apparently prays to the goddess Juno, who, out of compassion, decides to help Alcyone by gifting her with a dream which would reveal the truth of Ceyx's death. Juno ends up contacting Sommus, God of Sleep, asking if he could send a dream to Alcyone--who then, refers to his Son, Morpheus due to his innate skill of, well, morphing into any form he wished. Morpheus then pays a visit to Alcyone, in the form of Ceyx, and explains what happened--that there is really no more hope for him, and that Alcyone must weep and let him go.

Overwhelmed with grief, Alcyone decides she can no longer live, and so attempts to kill herself by jumping off into the sea, to meet the same fate which struck her beloved.  But, suddenly, instead of falling to her death, Alcyone finds herself in the air, with wings, and the realization that she's been turned into a bird. She flies up into the air, higher and higher, and meets Ceyx, who is also turned into a bird as well, and off they go and live happily ever after--always seen in the sky together hence forth. In another version of the story, Ceyx and Alcyone took to calling themselves Zeus and Hera, which apparently didn't sit right with Zeus, who actually threw a thunderbolt at Ceyx's ship. As Alcyone mourns the loss of Ceyx, it's Zeus who turns them both into birds, after feeling bad about the whole thing. Both Alcyone and Ceyx were turned into Halcyon birds in the latter. Interestingly, this is the source and origin of the now outdated phrase, Halcyon Days, which correlates to a time of peace.

According to the myth, Aeolus, God of the wind, keeps the winds stable and calm so that Alcyone can nest and lay her eggs for seven days. Halcyon days also refers, in popular culture, to looking back at the good old times--coated with a sense of idyllic nostalgia--conjuring images of warm and fuzzy summer days, filled with carefree joy and relaxation. So basically, Halcyon days refers to a peaceful, calm, and idealistically memorable time. I feel this is an important symbol in understanding this Eclipse, because it seems to say that, "the good old days" are over. Now, on a collective level I feel this has tremendous significance for the shattering of the American Dream--the energy of this Eclipse holds with it, the awakening and realization that things will never go back to the way they were, or the way we imagined it was. In our own lives, we can perceive this in different ways. Obviously, for those of us who are personally effected by this Eclipse in particular, this is likely to be a prominent theme, of leaving the past behind. For me, it also seems to say that we need to move on from our idealistic memories of the past--because, it's our attachment to these memories which keeps us stuck in the present. By opening oneself up to different and more expansive possibilities, new memories can thus be created or experienced. This isn't to say that good times are over in general, but just that our definition and perception is about to dramatically change--and that we need to leave certain things behind now.

There is also, however, an inherent contradiction to this Eclipse. The ruler of the Eclipse, Mercury, is in Taurus conjunct Jupiter, and in mutual reception with Venus retrograde in Gemini. Venus, is also in a very tight trine aspect to Saturn in Libra. If we follow the north node in Sagittatius (which, by the way, is joined by Juno), we are shown that, well actually, we are invited toward a different perception of the past--we are guided to a more primal, and perhaps, more authentic essence of the past, as opposed to our mental perceptions or ideas about it. On a collective level, this seems to say, that the solutions to our problems actually come from connecting to a more authentic, natural, and grounded understanding of the roots of existence--and if we trust our intuition, we are likely to be guided to a new understanding which connects all the pieces and puts things all together, in a seemingly effortless flow of movement. The chart seems to say that there are critical missing steps that we have overlooked collectively, and we need to go back, and look deeper before we can go any further. This Eclipse has the power to allow us to truly bridge and bring together mind and matter in a beautiful coalescence and synchronicity.

The myth of Alcyone and Ceyx is pretty interesting, and I suppose we could conjure up all sorts of ideas about what it could mean in terms of the 2012 transition. If we look at the sinking ship, as, well, our current modern dilemma, it seems to offer some hope of a powerful transmutation, and "Ascension". We could also look at this another way, that perhaps the human race needs to die and become resurrected into a new realm of being. Hmm....that's quite possible. Alcyone and Ceyx were transformed into an entirely different species altogether, and completely released their attachment to their previous human form. For me, the whole Ascension idea isn't rightly understood, and I don't think it's really what many people think of it. There is actually much we can gleam from this story about the supposed Ascension process---but, I'll let you use your imagination to come up with more insight on your own. One thing is clear though, the horoscope shows that this is an era where we need to learn more about the natural laws of nature, and the way things were intended to be--as a species we have become disconnected from the truth of our existence, and now is a critical step in returning to our roots--and working with reality the way that it actually is.

Now, speaking of synchronicity, it seems that this is also going to be greatly heightened in our lives now, especially with Venus retrograde. The more we trust and follow this synchronicity, the more we'll be guided to our true and authentic path--and also, toward highly significant meetings with others who will have a very significant impact on our lives. Many of these connections may actually be with individuals from the past, that we have already formed relationships with--and it could relate to a rekindling of those bonds. So, it seems, this Eclipse offers a breath of fresh air, in many ways--and after moving out of most of the retrograde confusion over the past few months--we can, at least, feel that new life is on its way, but only if we're open and receptive to it. The more resistance we have to this "shattering", I guess you could say, we'll likely experience more of the painful and confusing side of this Eclipse. The Eclipse gets an expansive activation on June 13, 2012 (my birthday, hint hint). Aside from being rather quite significant for me, it also shows that the energy potential of this Eclipse is ripe and ready to go--it shows a lot of momentum building and getting ready to explode. The Eclipse also gets an activation from Saturn from December of 2014 through September of 2015. We can see that the potential of this Eclipse is going to expand now, that is, blow open and take us beyond the horizon--and whatever changes we experience, are likely to carry on for the next few years, receiving a critical challenge and solidification later on.

Many of these symbols also point to a critical need for collaboration with others, and exposure to foreign ideas and experiences--we must open our minds to the varying perspectives and values of other interests, and to begin a process of synthesizing these ideas slowly over time. Both Mercury and Jupiter are in a sesquequadrate with Pluto in Capricorn, square Uranus in Aries. Many of these ideas will have the power to greatly alter our current systems and structures--there is going to be a radical, and sudden shift and change of direction, leading to entirely new forms. With the upcoming Transit of Venus, we can look at this time as very critical for the development of new solutions for the world, and entirely new ways to live and experience our lives. Like I said earlier, this process is most effective when we release attachment, and thus, when we allow ourselves to simply experiment and test things out. Neptune could potentially create confusion when we blindly follow the herd, or if we simply just believe what we're told. The truly creative and inspirational effects of this transition, will come as a result of a conscious combination of intuition, imagination, critical thinking, and skepticism.

Solar Eclipses can also be viewed as a powerful release of built up energy, which takes place in multiple dimensions simultaneously. This effect is believed to greatly alter and influence natural forces within the earth, expressing itself in anomalous weather and even earthquakes. In my experience this depends entirely upon the strength of the eclipse--but I have always noticed an increased emotional and even psychic shift within myself around the time of the eclipse, as well as a heightened sense of awareness. This eclipse will culminate in a Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius on June 4th/5th--just one day prior to the Transit of Venus event, on June 5th/6th. This summer indeed proves to be quite an eventful time, both for the individual and the collective. We can anticipate many changes to occur both within ourselves, as well as around us. Ground yourself firmly, and reach for the stars. If you set intentions around the New Moon, then Solar Eclipses are extra potent in their effects. Equally, this is the most propitious time to begin new projects, and to start pushing things into motion that you want to be successful. This eclipse also greatly favors new intellectual pursuits, and embarking upon new fields of study--or, most likely, adding deeper knowledge and understanding to what you've already been pursuing.

Sabian Symbol

The sabian symbol for the Eclipse reads:

"A glass bottomed boat in still water"

This image suggests transparency, and seeing through into other realms, unhindered. We get a sense of effortlessly peering into the deep, into a world which is usually hidden from perception--but due to the technology of the boat, one is able to experience what would be normally completely inaccessible. The ocean can also be looked at as symbol for emotions, and the unconscious realm, and could relate to the ability to use thoughts (air) to understand and comprehend this foreign reality. Here we get the sense of exploration, and of discovering new dimensions of being, and new aspects of reality. With the assistance of a window, the awakening of a new faculty within the psyche is catalyzed, allowing it to witness what was only seen from the surface dimension. It's interesting the repeating themes with the ocean, and calm peaceful waters--with the myth of Alcyone. Hmm....things to ponder.

Technical Notes & Viewing Locations

This will be an Annular Eclipse of the Sun, which means that as the Moon passes over, there will be a small ring of light, kind of like a Halo, visible. For the US, this will be the first central eclipse of the 21st century--meaning that the central line of the umbra will pass through the continental United States. In addition, this is the first annular Eclipse in the US since May of 1994--which, incidentally, coincided with the conjunction of Neptune and Uranus. The Annular phase will be visible here in the United States, on the west coast--as well as the Chinese coast, southern Japan, and western Canada. Tokyo, Albuquerque, and Guangzhou will be on the central path. Most of Asia, Russia, and northwestern North America will be able to view a partial eclipse--and the maximum will occur in the North Pacific and end in the western United States. This Eclipse is apart of Saros cycle 128, series 14, which began in August of 984 AD.

Supermoon in Scorpio 2012

Full Moon @ 16 Scorpio 01'
May 5, 2012
8:35 PM Pacific
11:35 PM Eastern

Keep your eyes to the eastern horizon right after the Sun sets on May 5th, and you will be treated with a spectacularly bright and beautiful Supermoon in tropical Scorpio. This means that the Moon is at perigee, which is its closest approach to the Earth--but, with the SuperMoon, it is much closer than your average perigee--and thus its biggest and brightest appearance of the year. Our last "Supermoon" occurred in March of last year. According to Space.com, this Full Moon will be 16 percent brighter than average. So, astrologically, what can we expect? The Full Moon brings events, circumstances, and processes to some kind of culmination or climax--and when we experience a Supermoon, this is simply amplified more so than usual. Emotions are usually the most pronounced accentuation, especially occurring in watery Scorpio--although, there will be a tendency to keep any or all outbursts hidden and suppressed from others. Sex, sexual impulses, and desires are also greatly amplified with this lunation. A Full Moon in Scorpio brings out the 'darker' dimensions of the psyche, and reality in general. This is a time where we may not need to actually look very hard, or dig too deeply, to find the secrets we're looking for--it is more likely that many hidden elements will simply become illuminated and brought out into plain sight for all to see--or well, for whomever is paying attention.

Mars is picking up speed from its retrograde, and beginning to move out of the highly uncertain opposition with Neptune. We are likely to feel a lot more momentum going now, and so it will gradually become much easier to move forward with things and to find the desired energy and drive--The Full Moon seems to signify a powerful shift in our collective energy field--giving Mars a bit of a kick in the ass, especially since Mars is co-ruler of Scorpio. The Full Moon strikes a wide opposition with Jupiter, so just be conscious of a tendency to overdo things--of course, if you are sufficiently grounded and practical, then this can be a great opportunity to expand above and beyond the usual routine. If you're at all prone to overindulgence, the usual advice applies here--while it probably tastes or feels amazing--just keep in mind that every action has a reaction, and sometimes it's painful.

Mercury is in a pretty tight opposition with Saturn--so it might be difficult in communicating important messages. If you find yourself emotionally charged over some issue, and feel the need to make some hefty decision or even commitment, it might be wise to wait a few days until things clear up. Combined with Mars' forward momentum, and Scorpio's dark side, this Full Moon can lead to combative argumentation if we are not conscious of these impulses. Take a deep breath--or rather, take several, and take things a bit slowly this Full Moon--one step at a time. While it may be tempting to just go for it without much thought or consideration, it's the carefully and well planned execution that will be the most successful.

There will also be a more pronounced desire to release and let go of many things now, as Scorpio is the archetype of death, decay, and transformation. With the effect of the Supermoon, we can more easily release stagnate energies within the psyche--letting it all just pour out into that infinite abyss of transmutation. What you don't need anymore, let the universe handle it now, there's no need to keep holding on. The Sabian symbol for the Full Moon reads:

"A woman, the father of her own child."

This rather strange symbol, seems to indicate the themes of independence and self-sufficiency, and of taking on more than is usually expected. We can also look at this symbol as a reference of balancing two opposing constructs within the psyche--male and female, yin and yang.

In opposition, the Sun's symbol reads:

"A battle between the swords and the torches"

Again, this is a strong reference to dualities. Swords refer to the mind and intellect, and Torches refer to passion and creativity. Together, these symbols illuminate the innate struggle of what one thinks and what they feel deep inside. At the Full Moon, a powerful culmination and reconciliation of these opposing constructs is possible. If we are too much in our head, and overtly logical, we miss out on creative opportunities. If one is too consumed by their passion, they miss the forest for the trees. It is a balancing of these forces within ourselves which can lead to great and beautiful achievements. Creativity and intelligence can indeed work together.

*For those astrologically privy, take a look at which house of your horoscope the Full Moon takes place, there is likely a lot going on there--especially a powerful culmination, and possible transformation, in regards to those themes and issues.

**This SuperMoon in Scorpio also coincides with Cinco de Mayo weekend--This is an intense combination, and could lead to some crazy parties. Be safe and conscious out there!

Venus Retrograde 2012

Venus Retrograde In Gemini
May 15- June 27 2012

Of all the planets, Venus and Mars have the most infrequent of retrograde cycles, and in one way or another, correlate to a significant period of time in everyone's lives. When a planet goes retrograde it is primarily inverting the normal flow of conscious experience, resulting in a changing of direction, focus and attention. In general, retrograde cycles often redirect consciousness down alternate avenues; or toward the past and "unfinished business". Venus rules both Libra and Taurus, so let's look into the Libra end first. Both Venus and Mars retrograde cycles often signify the meeting of " new" people in our lives, and these specific individuals sometimes have a very significant impact on our life direction--sometimes having the effect of rerouting us entirely on our present course. These cycles can also correlate to the ending of relationships which were ignited at a previous retrograde cycle, most commonly experienced with the Mars retrograde two year "burn out" effect.

One explanation for this is that Venus (and even Mars) retrograde is a sort of karmic gateway, and from the perspective of reincarnation, we are meeting individuals from past lives, or from the past in our present life with which there are unresolved issues. We are likely to find ourselves dealing with many karmic circumstances within our current relationships more so than usual. It's as if Venus retrograde provides a collective karmic clearing. This view is strongly shared by the School of Evolutionary Astrology, founded by Jeffery Wolf Green. According to Green:

"When Venus goes retrograde through transit, it can correlate to a time in which we re-experience old issues or dynamics that we may have felt that we have already worked through or left behind. It can also be a time in which unresolved karmic issues that exist between us and our partner suddenly reappear, or when karma brings old friends or lovers back into our life. If we meet someone for the first time during a Venus retrograde cycle, someone who has some direct impact on our life in some way, or we have this effect for someone else that we have just met for the first time, then this correlates to a past-life connection in which something has not been finished, completed, or resolved--for better or worse. Accordingly, the Venus retrograde cycle is an excellent time to complete karmic business."
--Jeffrey Wolf Green, Pluto Volume 2: The Soul's Evolution Through Relationships

In my personal experience, this view makes the most sense, in terms of providing a deeper explanation for this phenomena. Not every Venus retrograde cycle will result in a highly significant new relationship, but it will always bring "fated" like connections into our lives, connecting us with individuals we find really familiar for some reason--and who we are usually quite intrigued by upon initially meeting. We will also have this effect on other individuals as well, even when it may not seem mutual from our perspective. Now whether or not reincarnation is an ultimate truth, or merely a convenient perception to describe such existential phenomena we cannot make sense of otherwise (or even fathom here in our third dimensional bubble); I personally find it a very useful lens through which to make sense of life around me, and Venus retrograde often makes it abundantly clear that something deeper is going on in our personal relationships and the connections we make. When Venus goes retrograde we are invited to investigate the darker or hidden dimensions of ourselves and others. This often results in the unveiling of shadow material projected in other people around us. This allows for a different lens from which we can perceive ourselves and the people we interact with.

This alternate perception of others need not always be negative, and can simply have the effect of allowing us to see the deeper workings of others, and the impact they have on our personal lives. It is usually advised that one be receptive to these deeper realizations, and simply take it all in as opposed to trying to do anything to make sense of it, or to even change things during the actual retrograde. Since our relationships reflect our own internal dynamics, the most enlightened perception would be to see any flaws or shadows as our own, and to learn to integrate and heal them within ourselves. Because the Venus cycle itself is so complex, and actually governs an enormous cyclic structure, it can be a channelnge to make rational sense of "why" we met this person or that, or what unfinished business we have with them; sometimes it's just simply about the experience of meeting them, and things often organically unfold the way they're meant to. If one is privy to the deeper karmic workings of their horoscope, it can often become clear what type of role the individual is playing, and what we can do to support healing, resolution and understanding.

Now, On the Taurus end, Venus retrograde can have the effect of allowing us to revise resources, and or the ability to support oneself. Sometimes this can correlate to a period of insecurity about what we're capable of, and whether we have enough resources, training or talent in whatever areas we find as valuable tools to make our way in the world. Naturally, Venus retrograde can bring up issues of self-worth, such as any insecurities within ourselves we have not addressed, or that have not previously been brought to our attention. Venus retrograde can also redirect us toward the discovery of entirely new resources, or different ways of making a living, or providing us with additional training to further enhance what we already do. We can also anticipate our attitudes toward these things to become greatly altered, or possibly challenged by others.

Many astrologers feel that Venus retrograde is not the most favorable time for financial endeavors, and this can be true in many situations dealing with large investments. It is often said that Venus retrograde can correlate to a period of financial sluggishness as well, however, I tend to see that this is quite dependent on the specific situation. As I stated above, retrogrades often invert or redirect the normal flow of movement within an area of life described specifically by which house of the natal horoscope the retrograde is taking place. So, for some, if "financial sluggishness" is the norm, then this is likely to change in some way, however drastic or subtle; but, as with any retrograde, set backs, delays and an unexpected turning of events are always a common feature. The intention is to actually align things more with their intended path. Another component of Venus retrograde is a re-evaluation of personal values and convictions; we may find ourselves challenging the very things that we place value upon and identify with. Again, this can often result in feelings of insecurity, such as feeling like the rug has been pulled out from under you, and not knowing where to stand, what to think, believe or identify with. If we keep an open mind, however, and are open to seeing another way of looking at things, then this effect need not be negatively experienced. Venus retrograde can dramatically alter our personal value system, making sure that we are always growing, evolving, and changing with the flow of life.

The effects of Venus retrograde are noticeable during the actual retrograde, as well as both shadow periods. During the initial shadow, we are introduced to themes and issues that will likely be dealt with during the retrograde process. The final shadow usually brings a phase of closure to those themes and issues.  It is also common to make "fated" connections with others during the shadow periods as well as the retrograde itself. Retrogrades remind us that the universe usually has alternative plans than our expectations. When attached to any expectation of what should be, or should happen, we will usually experience frustration because the events around us refuse to coalesce or synchronize with our ego. Taking into consideration the Venus archetype, and the retrograde process itself, we can surmise that the best way of dealing with this process is to be in a state of pure openness and receptivity to what we don't already know, or have yet to experience about ourselves and those around us.

The Bigger Picture: The Venus Synodic Cycle

Venus retrograde is apart of a much larger and dynamic cyclic process. Venus's retrograde cycles form the structure of the Venus synodic cycle (synod=meeting place). This is when the Earth, Sun and Venus form an alignment which occurs along a very precise and predictable rhythm. From our perspective on Earth, the conjunctions of Sun and Venus will repeat at the same location within the zodiac, with a variance of roughly 2 1/2 degrees, every 8 years. For example, Venus went retrograde in May of 2004 at 26 degrees Gemini--just two degrees from its position this year at 23 degrees 59 minutes (rounded to 24 degrees). Look for prominent natal placements in this area and take note at what was going on in your life at the last retrograde in Gemini; there are likely to be similar changes happening now, possibly connected symbolically to that time.

Just like the Moon, Venus has phases, when she is either New or Full. During each retrograde, Venus is New, and also transitions from an Evening to a Morning star--meaning she will be rising as opposed to setting with the Sun in the sky, also called Helical rising. Many significant changes and events in our lives synchronize themselves around this cycle. These New and Full phases, are also known as Superior or Inferior conjunctions. When Venus is New and thus retrograde, she is forming an inferior conjunction with the Earth and Sun. This means that Venus is on the visible side of the Sun, facing the earth during the alignment. When Venus is Full, she is making a superior conjunction, and on the far or non visible side of the Sun.

Venus's superior and inferior conjunctions, and retrogrades, take place in 5 different signs: Gemini, Aries, Capricorn, Scorpio, and Leo. The conjunctions between Sun and Venus alternate between these 5 signs, and work backwards through the zodiac, staying in a particular group for roughly one hundred years. The last Venus retrograde cycle took place in Scorpio in October 2010, and now occurs in Gemini, moving to Capricorn in the year 2014. The repeating conjunctions, and entire synodic cycle itself, form the shape of an almost perfect 5-sided pentagram in the sky--thus the origin of this sacred and esoteric symbol. The star is almost perfect, because each end varies by roughly two degree increments; but aside from that, the symmetry produced by Venus is truly an astounding realization. From our perspective here on Earth, Venus actually forms a strikingly dynamic rose shaped pattern, exemplifying the truly complex precision inherent within Venus's cycle around the Sun, and thus her association with beauty, symmetry, and perfection. Each loop within the rose below is formed by Venus's retrograde cycle which moves between 5 separate locations every two years, and repeats in the same location every eight years.Venus truly boggles the mind.

Venus As A Symbol

The symbol of Venus is formed by a circle above a cross. The circle symbolizes spirit, soul, or the eternal life force energy which permeates and infuses matter. The cross has been used by many cultures throughout the world as a symbol for the cross of matter, or axis mundi: the intersection point between worlds. Thus, Venus's symbol is literally a depiction of spirit penetrating into physical form. You could say that, as humans, we are symbolically sacrificed upon this cross in each incarnation. The soul, the eternal life force energy, aptly symbolized as an infinite circle with no beginning or end, enters into the physical vessel to interact with the solid world. The precise geometry produced by Venus in the sky correlates quite literally to her influence upon our innate human reverence for beauty, symmetry and order. Venus is the archetype which, in a way, informs the "construction" and design of the natural world--mainly all sentient biological systems. The natural world is thus "informed" by a less dense vibrational resonance, which is a template or program that we cannot physically see in our current density.

In eastern ideologies, this life force energy is described as Chi or Qi--which flows up from the the earth, and into the body, activating the chakras, or energy centers, as well as enlivening all sentient life forms. The practices of Yoga and Tai Chi (Tai Chi is Taoist yoga) are disciplines which allow for the opening of the body, so that it is receptive to this life force energy so that there is proper flow and movement within.Venus resonates with a state of being, as opposed to doing; it is the archetype of absolute receptivity. Because of this, we associate Venus with a feminine archetype, and along with the asteroids, she is one of the few planets to be referred to as strictly female in nature. The Maya, however, associated Venus with warfare and sacrifice, things we would normally assign to "masculine" Mars. I would disagree that any one planet is ever strictly confined to either Male or Female, and in fact, every archetype is essentially a mutable construct. In our current worldview, this is a convenient lens which allows us to accurately define our patriarchal collective psyche.

Venus in fact has a definite dualistic nature, which is exemplified in her transition from Evening to Morning Star. The ancients transposed two archetypal constructs onto Venus, when she was either rising or setting with the Sun. So in other words, Venus isn't always "beauty", "symmetry" and "perfection". Venus is also commonly identified as the "love" planet, and one of the most beneficent; however in observing Venus cycles in one's chart throughout time will reveal that this isn't always the case. Venus is more aptly associated with the pleasures of "love" than actual commitment. In fact, Venus exemplifies pleasure orientation, which when focused on too strongly, leaves nothing but an empty and superficial way of relating to life, as well as an endless pursuit of gratification and the fulfillment of desire.

As Venus transitions from Morning to Evening star, she is basically engulfed by the Sun, disappears for three days, and re-emerges on the other side and begins to ascend with the Sun each Morning. In ancient mythology, this was symbolized as a descent into the underworld, and a subsequent return and transition. We see this literal astronomical event reflected in the myths of Persephone in Greek mythology, the Sumerian Innana, and the Babylonian Ishtar. In all versions, the goddess descends into the underworld, is stripped of worldly processions, and is some how kept there for a period of time before reemerging and returning to the physical world. These myths seem to speak of the impermanence of matter and form; what we see is only a facade, and that eventually, it must be stripped away or destroyed, torn open, to reveal the true force of divinity behind the veil of the natural world. The Hindu goddess Kali perfectly reflects this side of Venus's nature. Our reverence and desire for beauty leaves us attached to that form; but the truth is that everything around us is dying, and is, in the end, impermanent. The more we hold onto what we see, the harder it is to let go, and the more painful it will be when it disintegrates. The true origin of beauty lies elsewhere, and what we see in this reality is merely a reflection of a higher form of order we can but only glimpse.

The circle above the cross symbolizes endless change and eternal return. We could associate this with the idea of reincarnation and the notion of the soul literally recycled over and over penetrating into form. The cross itself can also be seen as symbolic of the four directions or four elements: Fire, Earth, Water, Air; the circle above as the fifth, or hidden element, Spirit. Venus thus symbolizes the coalescence of these elements into the physical beings we interact and identify with. The symbol reminds us, however, that all is changing, and all is impermanent. What we see and interact with in the world are merely symbols of our own unconscious desires. They are merely empty shadows which are always coming and going. With that, however, we can equally see that behind the facade of physical form lies a conscious intelligence which transcends all time, and thus death. Beyond the veil of death, decay and suffering lies the truth of eternal divinity. To truly know this divinity we must descend into ourselves, we must eventually release all attachment to what we see and what we identify ourselves with externally.

With this understanding we can see Venus retrograde also dealing with a process which allows us to connect more deeply with our true nature or divinity. It is likely that through external events, circumstances and people, Venus retrograde will allow one to see themselves more deeply, and to connect more truly with their authentic and divine nature. When Venus is retrograde, it is also symbolically descending into the underworld, and thus returning on the other side renewed. The Venus retrograde cycle symbolizes a time where we are releasing previous desires, attachments and connections, and in a very real way, solidifying new ones. It is this very process, of separation and return, of coming and going, of accumulating and emptying, that is the very essence of the soul's journey through evolution. From the perspective of Buddhism it is the attachment to desire itself which keeps the soul returning life after life to fulfill that desire. With this in mind, we can consciously work with these cycles, Venus, and even Mars retrograde, to connect more deeply with our soul purpose and the deeper intentions for why we're really here to begin with.

Venus Retrograde In Gemini

Venus will retrograde from 23 to 7 degrees tropical Gemini. Significant natal placements within this vicinity will indicate a much more meaningful, and likely life changing, retrograde cycle for an individual with effects lasting for many years to come, particularly if one has natal placements where Venus stations either retrograde or direct (around 23 and 7 degrees Gemini respectively). The sign of Gemini deals with the diversity of life experience. With Venus, we are likely to find ourselves reviewing various ideas and thoughts we've placed value upon, as well as meeting others who will somehow stimulate us mentally or intellectually in some way. When Venus goes retrograde, and at her New phase, she slows down; thus Venus will  be in Gemini for four months. This extended stay will extenuate the collective mental psyche; our tastes will be more inclined toward the variety that life has to offer, and toward analysis and a desire for varied communication. This will also place an extenuated emphasis within a particular house of the natal horoscope, and we are likely to find a lot going on there for quite some time. Take this time to review the thoughts and ideas you've been carrying around, and allow yourself to be open to taking on entirely new and different mental constructs which are likely to challenge or possibly oppose many preconceived notions.

Venus in Gemini allows us to taste and sample various options, choices, experiences, beliefs and ideas--so this is a time to be open to the vicissitudes that are likely to begin floating around, and that could also be presented by new and "fated" connections with others. Gemini is more about the gathering of facts and information rather than the actual process of synthesis, which is governed by Sagittarius, This could correlate to a time where we are feeling scattered, agitated, and indecisive. Collectively, this influence is likely to be highly mentally energizing, and it could be a challenge in keeping the mind and nervous system settled. The ultimate goal of all this scattered and possibly agitating energy is to sift and sort through a variety of sources, and to eventually extract the essential truth. At the root of it, Venus in Gemini seeks to provide us with new possibilities, options, perspectives and beliefs; thus having the effect of greatly expanding our awareness of the world around us. At this time we may be asked to surrender and let go of certain ideas or even "facts", we've had about life and the world, and to incorporate entirely new perceptions and experiences into our awareness. Everything is changing; all is coming and going.

New Moon In Taurus 2012

New Moon @ 01 degrees Taurus 35'

3:18 AM Eastern

The New Moon in Taurus is grounding, practical, steadfast, and persistent. This is a time to begin or initiate things that need plenty of time to develop and mature, as Taurus is all about the process, which requires that we work one step at a time. Whatever does begin now, will have much strength and solidity behind it, and with Venus, ruler of the New Moon, in Gemini--we can slowly focus our minds sharply on whatever we are dealing with currently. The New Moon conjoins Ceres, the earth goddess, and so we are likely to feel strongly pulled toward the natural world and a desire to nurture others or ourselves. The New Moon makes a trine to Mars, now recently direct after a three month retrograde cycle. Mars is also slowly moving out of a very powerful opposition with Neptune, and thus this New Moon is likely to signify a rush of strong telluric forces coming up from the Earth, providing a much needed boost of momentum, to slowly begin a new building and healing process.

The New Moon sextiles Neptune in Pisces--this assists in bringing expansive spiritual vision into solidity, or feeling inspired to make what may seem impossible, a reality. In fact, it is likely that if one has been enduring a long, arduous, and seemingly hopeless process--then this New Moon brings a powerful shift and awakening, as well as renewed faith, determination, and courage. Mercury rejoins Uranus in Aries, after its return from retrograde--and thus we feel a sense of electrifying spontaneity--look around for the sudden and unexpected this lunar cycle, which will not be as chaotic or uncontrollable as with the retrograde pass--we can use this energy productively, and with more intention to go further beyond the known and familiar. The past few months, and especially past three weeks, brought on quite a retrograde force, with everything seemingly moving backwards and against the flow. This New Moon marks a definite transition from all that, toward more steady productiveness. The New Moon also opposes Saturn retrograde in Libra, challenging us toward discipline and focus.

If you can dream it, and if you have the patience, determination, and commitment required, you can probably do it. Just keep in mind that whatever pops up now, isn't going to be a free lunch, it will require plenty of hard work--but in the end, it's not about the final objective anyway, it never really is--it's always about the process. Venus turns retrograde on May 15th (through June 27th), just four days before the next New Moon/Solar Eclipse. Venus retrograde is a bit different than Mars or Mercury retrograde--and deals mostly with karmic issues, which usually involve other people in our lives. Venus retrograde can also help us redefine our values, and to keep us open, renewed, and refreshed with new constructs from which we can identify with. Venus retrograde, can however, bring unexpected delays or changes in our plans and objectives, which is typical with any retrograde--especially amongst the inner planets. The reason for this is to redirect the normal flow of movement and attention, so that we are, actually, more aligned with our true path.

If Venus turns retrograde or direct near a significant placement in the natal chart, then expect big changes to take place this summer--or if Venus passes significant placements throughout the retrograde, then we are likely to meet new and influential individuals, or have deeper insights into our own nature. Venus retrograde is also a very powerful karmic gateway, allowing us to peer deeper into past lives, whether through connections with others, or through the dream-time. Mercury enters Taurus on May 8th, adding to the strong Taurean impulse, also, perhaps, calming the mind a bit. With Venus in Gemini, the nervous system has received quite an increase in activity lately. It may feel a bit overwhelming for a while, especially with Venus in Gemini for roughly four months--the challenge will be to sort through a lot of choices, options, and information--to find the kernel of truth from all of it--no easy task, but with patience, and a dose of Taurean persistence, if can be accomplished.

The Sabian symbol for the New Moon reads:

An electrical storm.

This image invokes the rumble and roar of thunder, perhaps in the distance. When lightening strikes anywhere near, all forms of sentient life pay attention--there is no denying the true power and force of an electrical storm. Often, an electrical storm comes out of the blue, unexpectedly, suddenly. That crash of thunder is truly grounding, it revels in that instant, just how small we truly are--and brings us right into the moment. Instinctively we are aware that such a force is an extension of forces far beyond our own power and strength--and in its presence, we are truly humbled. The lightening bolt is often associated with sudden revelation or the receiving of enlightenment--which comes crashing downward, to break up all stagnation, to clear the air, making way for the new. There is a beautiful silence at the end of a storm, imbued with a strong sense of respect for the power and ingenuity of nature.

*For gardening, the best and most fruitful planting day this Spring will be April 26th and 27th--mostly for above ground crops.

Full Moon In Libra 2012

Full Moon @ 17 degrees Libra 23'
April 06, 2012
3:19 PM Eastern
12:19 PM Pacific

The Full Moon in Libra sheds light upon the mirror images in the world around us, and we are invited to see that "out there" is a reflection is whats "in here", within us. Illumination of the other, of relationship--allows us to glimpse more deeply into ourselves, and to see that we are all connected, and inevitably, dependent upon each other in one way or another. This antithetical impulse to the New Moon in Aries, allows a balancing of intense self interest and revision toward a greater awareness and perspective of our impact upon the external environment, as well as our place within the larger scheme of things. Further amplifying this Full Moon is the fact that it's the first Super Moon of the year. A Super  Moon is when the Moon is at Perigee, and thus at its closest approach to the Earth. The Moon is also syzygy, which means that it is in line with the Sun and Earth--together, these exponentially enhance the already powerful nature of a Full Moon, amplifying its effects physically, emotionally, and psychologically.

With this powerful illumination in the sign of Libra, we may feel the urge to create more balance and equanimity. Less tolerant of any imbalances within ourselves and the outside world, we are likely to figure out how more harmony can be created all around. In fact, it is likely that this Full Moon marks a period of greater homeostasis within many facets of our being--within events, our bodies, and our minds--especially with the end of Mercury's retrograde period (April 4th). With the closing of this cycle, and the culmination of the Full Moon, we may feel drawn toward finishing up projects or plans--a phase which has us tying up loose ends in whatever process we've been involved in. At the New Moon in Aries, time was immensely sped up, and we may have felt rushed and impulsed toward some specific action or goal--perhaps out of a sense of mission or desperation. This impulsive energy is likely to have very much culminated and slowed down by now, allowing for time to relax a bit more, and gain some perspective. Since the Moon is Full, it will also be waning, and allowing a process of letting go and releasing of all that has been accumulated.  Perhaps we find ourselves letting go of a limited perception of reality, allowing more into our awareness by seeing another perspective. This other perspective could also potentially alter our self image, outer appearance, or persona.

There is quite a bit of interesting activity within the horoscope for this lunation, many of which could be potentially conflicting--and thus much of the potential harmony desired could be muddled by a multiplicity of options popping up all at once--such as feeling unsure of where to go, what to pick, or where to stand. Venus has just recently moved into Gemini, as of April 3rd, and is currently approaching the South Node of the Moon. Venus will be in Gemini for four months, as she undergoes her retrograde phase this May. In the Full Moon horoscope, we see Venus in a wide conjunction with the South Node, and involved in a heavy T-square with Neptune in Pisces, and Mars retrograde in Virgo. The square between Venus and Mars, which both rule the axis of this Full Moon, shows that there is an inherent conflict between action and passivity, male and female, and doing versus being. With any conflict, however, comes the opportunity for resolution--meaning a subsequent balancing of these two constructs within ourselves. This is a time where many changes can be made, but mostly internally, and for the most part, through an active surrender to the whims of the cosmos.

These symbols echo a sense of potentially feeling paralyzed and possibly frozen by mental uncertainty, which is usually accompanied by fear, worry, confusion, or despair. Often these feelings arise because we are unsure of what to do, or which path to ultimately take. Perhaps such burden of decision does not always rely upon the individual, and his or her personal will. Such a dilemma arises because one still clings to the illusion of control, and has succumb to making concrete, the symbol of the will. Thankfully, the fate of our lives or others, and the universe itself--do not lie solely in our hands alone, nor should we feel fully responsible for everything around us. Our responsibility lies with ourselves, with our own personal growth and development. The mirror around us indeed reflects this internal state and progress, but it is not dependent on us and our evolution--it is simply apart of it, and in accord with this unfolding. It is in one's ability to surrender the illusion of control, that is, surrender the fear, worry, despair, or confusion by letting go of the need to "figure it all out" or to "make the right choice", that we find relief from such a conflict. In the end, all is but the moment, which aside from any judgements, just is what it is--and our perception merely makes it good or bad.

Look around now, carefully, take a glimpse into the shadows which are reflected in your relations--whatever or whomever you associate with. As I've mentioned in previous articles, especially the New Moon reading, the collective energy is currently dealing with a lot of past issues and residues. This allows a natural cycle for the processing of karma and the transformation of stagnate energies. This is a prudent time to keep an open mind to new and hidden possibilities, especially things we've left behind or put aside. The Full Moon makes a Sesquiqudrate to both Venus and Neptune, and Mars makes a Sesquiqudrate to the Sun in Aries conjunct Vesta. All of these energies combined, open a doorway to the spontaneous, the unexpected, and especially the unknown. It is natural to feel uncertain with these signatures, especially since they can be so unpredictable in their nature. The energetic momentum from this Full Moon can drastically alter many things within us, shaking things up and moving us into completely unique directions. Taking the road less traveled now will likely make all the difference--or at least help break up the hum drum a bit.

The best antidote to any sense of paralyzed inaction, is to simply open up to an alternate perspective, and to try something else--embrace new information and ideas. This would also be a good time to experiment with learning to control the mind, such as through conscious breathing or meditation. Mars turns direct on April 13th, and it will slowly pick up speed from that point onward. This a good time to take a deep breath, relax, and integrate.Whatever stagnation, setbacks, delays, etc are likely to begin clearing up slowly now, and there will be more gradual flow and forward movement in the coming weeks (especially around April 13-16th)--this Full Moon marks a juncture of  intense transition. This Full Moon is a segway toward more productivity and activity, even though that may not seem or feel available at this time. Mars will be stationing in opposition to Neptune throughout the month of April--which could still flood the collective with a bit of an energy drain, as well as a feeling of being surrounded by fog. The fog will clear, it always does--so the lesson right now seems to be that, while we find ourselves in this dimension, we are certainly bound by the law and order of the universe--and sometimes, it's best to learn and follow the rules of the game. As human beings we are not invincible--our strength comes from systems and structures which have existed long before we got here.

The Sabian symbol for the Full Moon reads: Two Men under house arrest

The symbol for the Sun's position reads: An empty hammock.

The two men under house arrest aren't going anywhere anytime soon--it seems they have a bit to think about and ponder. Being under arrest implies that one is being held against their will, in a way, being forced into a phase of retreat away from society. This is the same as being put into "time out" when we're kids--hmm I guess not much changes when we "grow up". Children, in American culture at least, are often sent to their rooms, or told to sit in a corner and "think about what they've done". The ideal would be for the individual to somehow reform themselves, and have some sort of realization about their actions--thus resulting in change. "Thinking about what we've done" usually doesn't solve much--in fact it usually makes things worse. Perhaps a more productive admonition would be to go sit in a corner and meditate--and thus get rid of the thinking all together. House arrest is probably more preferable than actually going to jail. This symbol suggests a period of isolation within familiar surroundings, within one's own space. A Hammock is a place of rest and relaxation--it recalls images of nature, since hammocks are usually put up between two trees. An empty hammock isn't being used, perhaps suggesting the need for one to take a break. Both of these symbols speak of a standstill, a time of rest, recovery, isolation, and reformation. Things to ponder.

New Moon In Aries & Spring Equinox 2012

New Moon @ 2 degrees Aries 22'
March 22, 2012
7:37 AM Pacific
10:37 PM Eastern

This New Moon is a powerful force--electrifying and spontaneous, we've likely felt this energy over the past few weeks, alongside a tidal wave of accelerated time. Spirit indeed moves faster than matter, and at this time we can really understand just how true that is. It seems that what our minds and hearts desire--our bodies, and the physical world, are going to take a little more time catching up to--but that doesn't mean things won't eventually get going--it's just that this New Moon can be a bit conflicting unless we tread this territory very consciously. The New Moon conjoins Uranus and Mercury Retrograde, primarily, and with a rather wide conjunction with Vesta--all in Aries, and quite near the Aries point. With Uranus, this pulls us into the Cardinal Climax influx--Squaring Pluto in Capricorn. Naturally, such an intimate connection with the Uranus and Pluto Square, is going to create the experience, or illusion, of accelerated time--which could manifest as things moving very quickly, or possibly a desire to move rapidly but feeling as if things are not seemingly going fast enough. The primary image I get from this New Moon is of two cross currents, one composed of a mental and spiritual like ether--and another more dense and physical--creating the sensation that time and space are seemingly at odds.

With Mercury Retrograde, this is a natural juncture of revision--meaning it's an excellent time for reconsidering our stance with various things--questioning ideas, decisions, perceptions, situations--looking over life more thoroughly--such as taking notes of whatever faults might slip us up later on (usually this comes to our attention without much effort on our part), and addressing various mechanical issues, like changing light bulbs. With this comes a backward motion from the Retrograde force--but with Aries, and this New Moon conjoining Uranus, we feel equally propelled forward--so there is likely to be a lot of anticipation surging beneath the surface, awaiting to explode. Most of the newness that accompanies this New Moon, and the Spring Equinox--is likely to be a reinvention or resurrection of things from the past--like breathing air back into whatever we've set aside, put on the back burner, or even forgot about entirely. With the momentum of Uranus backing all this up--we have the potential to really evolve at this point, break out of the mold, and radically alter and restructure varying aspects of  our lives. We may feel impelled to reinvent ourselves, or experiment with different options, experiences, or decisions. Sometimes, however, that desire to push forward is balanced with an equally powerful urge to return to the past--through reminiscence or even physically visiting places of familiarity. The significant lesson floating around this Lunar cycle is teaching us about our responsibility to projects, plans, and intentions we've already put into motion--and showing us new and different ways of utilizing them.

There could be a lot of seemingly enticing and hot prospects popping up quite randomly, but simply take note of them--see if jumping on some new and foreign path is going to lead you anywhere--or whether there are other things which already have more ground, momentum, and investment. The earthy grand trine between Mars Retrograde in Virgo, Pluto in Capricon, and Jupiter in Taurus, is still in clear focus. This has us concentrated more on the physical plane, giving the potential to adjust, organize, and solidify financial and resource structures. This is also likely to bring up survival issues--such as feeling propelled to accumulate more--such as money, food, objects, opportunities--feeling as if there isn't enough, or that we need to stock up for the future. Naturally, this would be a good time to do so, just as long as it doesn't get too obsessive or restrictive--or at least we're mindful of this potential manifestation.

Mars Retrograde in Virgo, is in a very tight opposition with Chiron, widely conjunct Neptune and Pallas in Pisces. This combination in general could have us focused on health related matters--nutrition, cleansing, dieting, exercise, meditation--and the process of reinforcing our ability to assimilate--to improve the way we digest life, either literally or metaphorically. This could also have the potential to allow us to take action of a healing process, to confront our fears, wounds, pain, or suffering in life---it could also help to simply expose these areas by allowing us to look at them objectively, and come up with ways of resolving or integrating these aspects within ourselves--and with Pallas--we can anticipate all kinds of new ideas, solutions, and also the desire to dig for the truth of these matters. Many of us are likely to have already been involved in this process for some time, especially with the last lunation/New Moon, and the Mars Retrograde cycle by itself--although this cycle should help provide more clarity and sense of direction--less like the, being stranded on an island surrounded by fog without a compass kind of feeling.

The Sun conjoins Uranus on March 24th, intensifying the already active Uranian impulse, creating surges of innovation, electricity, spontaneity, or rebelliousness. Mind your step for the several days surrounding this new Moon--be as conscious as possible with your actions, and mindful of your innate humanness (hubris). The archetype of the Fool, and those 4th density tricksters, are likely to be quite active around these transits--and they could possibly combine forces with that notorious prankster Mercury retrograde if we aren't careful. Venus enters Gemini on April 3rd--where she will be spending a bit of an extended vacation for roughly four months, since, she'll be going retrograde in May. Venus will also be slowing down, and preparing herself, for her rare rendezvous with the Sun, during the Transit of Venus phenomena occurring early this June (stay tuned for an expanded article on this subject, which I should, hopefully, be completing soon).

In general, Venus in Gemini lends toward a desire and expanded appreciation for communication, diversity, and experience--and while retrograde, we will be reevaluating our resources pertaining to our ability to effectively communicate, multi-task, or even include or relate the ideas of others into our life experience. Venus in Gemini demands that we have all our facts in order, and collectively, there is likely to be a increased expectation of having well researched something before putting it forward, or acting on it. The Transit of Venus, or TOV for short, has had this impact historically for quite some time--as our collective spirit has been choosing to evolve and develop through the mind/mental/communication matrix for the past two thousand years--essentially focusing on the fusion and integration of our collective mind and higher self--bridging both hemispheres--as well as synthesizing all the foreign elements of the planet--bringing people, cultures, plants, food, etc, together--mixing and coalescing seemingly disparate pieces, and attempting to figure it all out--while also trying desperately to extract the essential truth.

Mercury goes stationary direct on April 4th---finishing up the Mercury retrograde cycle--which has us tying up loose ends and picking up all the pieces, or putting the last bits where they belong. Pluto turns retrograde on April 10th (which it does quite often), however, this will be the gearing and prepping up stage for the square off with Uranus, which will kick off their rather tense and potentially chaotic combination this summer--which will carry us a bit beyond the year 2015--Pluto and Uranus will square 7 times between now and then! Revolutionary movements of all sorts are quite in season--and it's likely we will see many attempt to prop themselves up with this new moon--which probably won't work out too well in the long run. However, this Summer forecasts some quite eventful, if not just plain interesting happenings going on. My recommendation, as usual--be mindful of what you get yourself involved with in these times (primarily large-scale social movements)--heed Venus in Gemini's message--do your research. Mixing unresolved emotional turmoil with politics is ugly--but seemingly inevitable in this day and age. Channeled to the personal and individual level, this allows us to, as I phrased earlier, "break out of the mold", which essentially means the time is ripe for social deconditioning.

Unfortunately, whether you want to call them the "government", the PTB, or transdimensional reptilian overlords--"they" are quite aware of this potential, and many many things are well planned quite strategically for the funneling and control of this impulse, which by the way, arrives quite predictably, just as it did in the late 1960's with the conjunction of the Uranus and Pluto in Virgo. I've written about this is some past articles--but basically, like i said, the root of this process is deconditioning. The late 1960's brought quite a psychedelic tsunami to the United States, as well as the rest of the world--and things became much more....well, "liberal" and abstract, then they were before (I don't mean this mainly in a political sense, but rather more on the individual, social, and cultural level--although politics are also included). After this, we also experience, of course, a contracting cycle which adds a dash of conservatism so things don't get too out of control--but--ultimately, history and culture were permanently imprinted by these signatures. Naturally however, many of the ideologies, beliefs, theories, and visions from that time need to be thoroughly challenged and expanded upon at this stage of the cycle--so those who cling to the way things used to be, back in the "good old days", are likely to seriously fail at this time, or come up against stagnation.

This is the time to take the very products and end results from that era, and evolve them to the next level--which demands that we are critical about whatever pops us now--and there will be quite a bit to choose from. Neptune in Pisces lends a bit of spiritualism and possible religious overtone to these political movements as well--as our collective psychology, until 2026, will be fermented with a desire to return to the womb, and find salvation from a greater force. Let's not confuse that "greater force", with something which is merely masquerading as omnipotence--things aren't always what they seem. This can also make the populace a bit more passive--even with Uranus in Aries, this doesn't lend well to conscious action, but rather action rooted in blind faith, idealism, or even delusion. On the flip side, these energies will definitely assist in propelling a truly beautiful creative and spiritual/psychic revolution, and the most authentic expressions will not be found in the mainstream--look deeper, and ultimately, look within. Real change starts with us.

Overall--this New Moon is all about going back to move forward--which at first might feel and seem counter productive, but if just go with it, you'll look back and be glad you did. Taking your time now and being conscious of any or all impulses to rush blindly without thinking, will indefinitely serve you well. If coming up against setbacks, delays, or things falling apart, try to see the reason and potential behind it all--the less attachment we have to how things turn out, and the more we simply trust in what is, the less stress we will experience in the long run--and the more successful we'll be when the universe is more in favor of aggressive pursuits.

The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon reads:

"A cameo profile of a man in the outline of his country"

I'd to share an interpretation of this symbol by Blain Bovee, excerpted from his excellent book, The Sabian Symbols & Astrological Analysis:

"[The symbol above] is an image of a side-view relief of a man that carries the impression of national identity. A "cameo" is a small piece of hard stone, often of differing colored layers with an image carved in relief against a background of a different color. Cameo is perhaps akin to "camera", a light-proof chamber from which the apparatus for taking photographs developed. "In camera" is hidden from public view; "camera obscura" and "camera lucida" are devices used to project an image in natural colors for tracing; a "cameo appearance" is a bit played by a distinguished performer. One gets the impression that a cameo profile shows a one-sided image like the profile of a Roman ruler on a gold coin, suggesting something more on the flip side".

I like the last sentence Bovee adds--correlating this image to the profile of a Roman ruler on a gold coin, and then the reference to the "flip side". Dane Rudhyar, in his book, An Astrological Mandala, interprets this symbol as "Participation in a greater life". Rudhyar suggests that the image, or side view of an individual in the shape of his country, suggests the notion of living a transpersonal life--and the realization by the individual that he or she is merely one part of a greater whole. What primarily stands out to me is the symbol's reference to the image of a man--the external presentation of the individual. This ties in with Mercury retrograde in Aries, and this New Moon and Spring Equinox aligning also with Uranus. These symbols strongly suggest radical reinvention of the self, in whatever form that takes. It suggests to us that we look deeper, at the flip side of who we are, and also cultivate the perception that who or what we are, is in fact a mirror image or representation of the greater whole--society, the earth, the solar system, the universe.

Perhaps along with this realization comes the notion that our identity is not something we will find without, externally on the outside--but rather, who we truly are is on the other side, deeper in our own personal world. So while the process of changing, or, seemingly acquiring our identity, may appear and feel like something entirely new, it's really a reunion with an old friend, because it was who were all along and we're just remembering. All these symbols suggest that we are being given the opportunity to tap into our more authentic selves, and to share and express that with the world at large, while also knowing that who we are is an extension of the divine--one piece of the greater whole we share. This is a time to question how we present ourselves, as well as the images and representations of other people that we've had. If you look carefully, you will see that there is much more than meets the eye, and that beyond our assumptions of ourselves and of others, is a more complex and profound reality than we could have ever imagined.

 Spring Equinox 2012

Spring/Vernal Equinox

Spring Equinox occurs on either March 19th or 20th, depending on where you are. Because both the New Moon and Equinox occur so close together, their symbols inevitably blend and bleed together. Much of the energies from this New Moon are likely to forecast all three months of Spring. As I've mentioned above, we could interpret this to mean that this Spring has a lot to do with the resurrection and revision of self identity--which will involve processes and events fermented by the symbolism of Uranus and Mercury retrograde in Aries--radically breaking out of the mold, deconditioning, and further pushing who we are past the familiar and comfortable. This is a powerful force of radical destruction and of creation simultaneously. This cycle favors the tearing down of structures, which can be, at times, the first step of a creative process.

On the individual level, many may realize the vastness of their capabilities, and completely surprise themselves with how far they can actually go. The energies surrounding this Spring season may feel very overwhelming and possibly electrifying. With Mercury retrograde within both charts--the Equinox as well as the New Moon, we can be sure that the process of revising, reconsidering, rethinking, and making adjustments to various facets of our lives will continue on until Summer. This is further reinforced by Venus' retrograde cycle beginning in May. Pay very close attention to the unfolding of events around you now, as they all connect, synchronize, and coalesce. You will notice that many chapters are closing, and that many connections you've had with others are coming to some kind of climax or closure/resolution. We could look at all of this as very karmic, meaning, we are resolving and finishing up business we've had in many past lives, but also, simply things we've started in this life too.

It is the natural flow of life--one step forward, a few steps back, a few steps forward, one step back....and on and on and on we go, until we feel complete, whole, and integrated with the way things are--or that we've experienced enough and acquired the appropriate lessons. The retrograde process weaves this into our experience of time--allowing us to see beyond the linear perception of our conscious experience, to see that time itself is merely the result of cycles converging together-- interacting and flowing in a great cosmic dance. There are times in our lives where we need to go back to move forward, we need to go over things a few more times, just until we get it "right". This Spring is very much one of those times, and while that process is also coming to closure, it would be quite helpful to just keep it in mind.  Embrace all the changes that may be occurring within you, and while it may be tempting to revert or even cling on to the past and the way things used to be, we are invited to ultimately break through the barrier to keep on with the process of transformation.

In the solstice chart, the most striking aspect is the Moon, sandwiched between Neptune and Chiron, in opposition Mars Retrograde. Again, this hints at a critical process of deep healing, integrating, and the fusing together of disparate elements. It also shows us that the most success this Spring will come as a result of patience. We may feel a bit agitated or antsy, because it may feel as if things aren't going fast enough--and at the same time, we may feel more apprehensive because it isn't clear which direction to go, or where we're being lead. If anything, Chiron is about the process, it teaches us that it is in the actual enduring of experience that allows us to understand and fully integrate. Chiron also teaches about the holographic nature of reality, and how everything, every piece of our selves and bodies, are merely fragments of the greater whole.

With Neptune in the picture, we are likely to see many psychic and spiritual awakenings happening--along with heightened emotions and sensitivity. There will also be a greater ability to tune into ourselves and others, especially our bodies. The core message of this combination is: True healing is a process of surrender, and learning to trust that our bodies--which are an extension of the earth herself, knows what it's doing--we just need to trust it confidently without judgment, and without fear. There could also be greater opportunities for securing our boundaries, along with a desire and yearning for safety and protection. A major lesson from this could be that nothing outside of ourselves will ever fully protect us--that the ability to guard and defend oneself comes from an internal state within, a energetic force fueled by vitality and inner strength. Ultimately, we are learning that we don't need to know or even fully understand what's happening all the time, and that it is in our conscious surrender that we are gently led toward our true path.

Spring is all about new beginnings, it is the rebirth of the Sun after its long journey through darkness. Every Spring the Sun arrives in the East, and begins to ascend higher until it reaches Solar Maximum on Summer Solstice (in the north). It is the east which, heralds the dawn of the new day, of new life, and of fresh opportunity. In Winter, the Sun descends lower in the sky (toward the South), and the days are shorter. Our celebration of Easter, is actually a tradition of revering the Eastern Star (East Star), the Sun. The fulfillment of the promise made on Christmas morning, that the Sun would be reborn and would rise again, is made each and every Spring. The Sun has now returned to the earth, and will increase its light, warmth, and abundance to all who are ready to receive.

This is the natural time that new creations for the Solar cycle are planted--however, with all the retrograde activity, much of these creations are not entirely new, or even as fresh as we might think they are. As I hinted above, the symbols surrounding this Equinox can also suggest the creative potential of destruction--of consciously controlled chaos. This will likely manifest in our personal lives, and in the collective field. This process allows us to see and accept that if things fall apart in life, it is actually giving way to new life--that something else will reemerge from the ashes. When this reality is embraced, we see that it is merely our judgements and our attachments that make such experiences more challenging, or painful, than they need to be. With that in mind, this Spring is the perfect time for clearing the decks, allowing things to run their course and to go their own willful direction--and to surrender to the new potential waiting to bud forth and herald the Sun, the dawn of the new day.

Earth Grand Trine/Venus and Jupiter Conjunction

Image
Quite a beautiful and productive grand trine formed today---energies and events which have been building since late fall last year, could be brought back into focus--this is a very earthy, centering, and grounding influence--allowing for optimum organization with areas of finances, building and securing structures, and solidifying ideas into more concretness. Powerful expansion of the very material substance of reality--giving us an extended ability to shape and change the world around us--which includes our own bodies--through a razor like perception which could assist us in healing, assimilating, and integrating using disparate tools or bits of information. With Venus joining Jupiter, we feel a strong pull to the natural world and natural beauty--or just beauty in general, although our tastes are likely to be more focused on the simple, elegant, and organically inspired. Watch for indulgent tendencies--and most of all....watch the skies, at and just after sunset--Jupiter and Venus will follow the Sun as it descends, reaching exact conjunction late tonight on the Pacific coast. These beautiful planets are not hard to miss--quite the brightest "stars" in the sky indeed, and quite the eye candy--maybe just seeing them together will be enough to curb those cravings ;-) Above all--especially with Mercury Retrograde--this in an excellent time to check in with how you're pacing yourself with things--if you feel rushed, check in deeper and see if urgency is really warranted. Taking things step by step, one piece at a time, is the best way to go right now.

Full Moon in Virgo 2012

Full Moon @ 18 degrees Virgo
March 8, 2012
4:39 AM Eastern
1:39 AM Pacific

The Full Moon in Virgo ignites a desire for cohesion, tangibility, and usefulness. Emerging from the New Moon of Feb 21st, we somewhat get clear of the fog and placid water we may have found ourselves so enmeshed. With the ingress of Neptune in Pisces, we are feeling this impulse strongly, as if the floor beneath our feet has vanished or melted into a pool of dubiousness. This Full Moon brings to culmination many things--primarily it is a symbolic peak of the Mars retrograde cycle--what we are working on to make stronger and more successful should be known by now, as the Moon is currently illuminating our task at hand. Along with the sense of uncertainty, comes an equally powerful surge of excitement, of anticipation of tackling the great mystery--diving off the precipice as if anything were possible. We are not necessarily beginning now a completely new frontier, however--we are mostly mastering and bringing to culmination things we have already begun, in the past.

A lot will be gleamed by placing your attention on the sequence of events which brought you here, because each as served its purpose as a stepping stone and segway toward a much larger process that is taking place collectively. The Full Moon culminates, it brings forth from the darkness of potential into the light of manifestation. Are you creating or intending it? Maybe some of it, but we are also unfolding along with it, and it is creating us just the same. We may find ourselves strengthening our per-existent abilities--our dormant talents, skills, and capacities--finding new outlets  for their expression and utilization. Bringing back to life, breathing fire into--some forgotten project or task we set out long ago. This has the feeling of revival, of reawakening, of resurrection. Perhaps we are healing, integrating, transforming--bringing to a head a healing process by shedding more light on a health situation, resurrecting past wounds.

At the New Moon we may have felt more consumed by uncertainties, wounds, pain, or paranoia--but the Full Moon brings the light of awareness, and it is now that the potential exists to see how many pieces connect and inter relate with one another. The process itself is illuminated now: I see and I forget, I hear and I remember, I do and I understand. It is through the doing, through the repetition via application of knowledge that we truly grasp a thing, that we truly come to know what it's all about. I see this image of repetition, of going in circles--or spirals even, over and over--all of it. It feels as if timelines are converging here, overlapping-chapters closing and new doors opening. Emerging from the fog, finding our footing, our ground--we remember why we're here, where we're going--if only but a hint which suggests an intelligence to it all.

A striking Earth grand trine forms between Venus and Jupiter, Mars Retrograde in Virgo, and Pluto in Capricorn. This same configuration occurred in November, during the direct pass of Mars while Jupiter was retrograde. Perhaps a spark, vision, idea,  or revelation occurred to you then--and now it is likely to solidify more, and we may feel compelled to put it to use, master it--give it more power. With Venus conjoined Jupiter in Taurus there is a streak of financial expansion, abundance, and opportunity--however that shows up for us individually. There is much potential for productivity, especially with things that you have been working on or toward for some time now. If you've put forth the necessary time, effort, and dedication towards something, you are likely to experience a tremendous boost of success, or perhaps just a slight evolutionary leap.

This is also a time of finding the logic within the natural process--really connecting with all the fragments of the unfolding, and seeing how they connect to and effect one another. Equally, these configurations could allow us to unearth some hidden potential within us, or from the past, that we had no idea existed. Get grounded and then expand this Full Moon, there is a beautiful synergy between the physical and spiritual--listen closely to all the subtleties, and all the intricacies--but be mindful that both god and the devil are in the details.

Mercury goes retrograde just four days after the Full Moon. Oh what? Another retrograde? Seriously? Is anything moving forward these days? Well it seems the outer planets are holding down the fort for now--it is this transpersonal force beyond us which is seemingly the only beacon of sanity at the moment (if that's fathomable). Everyone else is seemingly undecided as to which way is up--or down. And that's ok, because it's times like these we realize that we're so not in control, I mean really--how did we ever think we were? Just as Mars goes direct, Venus takes her retrograde (May 16)--and so it seems, that until the latter part of Summer, we are in this inevitable stage of reinforcement, revision, and reconsideration. It's important to understand the intention of retrogrades, because when we take these symbols as negative omens, a lot of confusion occurs--especially as we are experiencing so many overlapping among the inner planets concurrently.

Retrogrades, first and foremost--bring up the past, in many ways (people, situations, projects, goals, desires, memories, etc). These past connections can be viewed as opportunities for clearing unresolved energy--and most of the time it is simply our experience of the situation which provides the clearing and release. Secondly, retrogrades often give us a "second chance", or a way to go back to something and enhance its potential. With that in mind, the root archetype of a retrograde impulses us into a state of questioning, of skepticism, and toward a desire to go beyond what we already know or understand. This leads us to the third major component, which is the experience of conflict which arises from our "pushing forward", while the universe is seemingly pushing the other way--going against the current.

This is almost always is experienced when an individual resists the need to gather more, to learn more, or to reinforce things, upsurging it with the desire to make it happen now--or even to go after and implement something entirely new, fresh, and unfamiliar. With that said however, one should not feel paralyzed into a state of inaction--but to simply be mindful of the difference between needs and impulses. Retrogrades, however, redirect the energy into the opposite direction from what we are "used" to experiencing. So, for example, if we are usually not "moving forward" or pushing on with things, then we can actually experience these times as more productive and actually quite different from most other people. Ideally, when one, or in this case, several retrogrades are occurring simultaneously, it is a time of preparation, of getting ready, of going over, and over, and over again. These are ideal conditions to further solidify our position, to make sure we have all "our ducks in a row", and our feet firmly planted. However, if you need to start something, or make something happen, do it--do not fear a retrograde as something which will curse you or make your efforts meaningless. Retrograde planets are powerful teachers and tricksters which offer us valuable lessons.

If you allow these forces to guide you, you will see that above all, they redirect your attention toward areas you may have forgotten all about--and they allow us to see and experience things from an entirely different perspective than we are used to. Projects, plans, businesses, or whatever started under a retrograde, may not exactly "fail" or "fall apart" as is commonly believed, but they are fermented by the retrograde archetype, meaning their very nature will be very much beyond our control and intentions. When beginning or attempting to implement something important to us during a retrograde, just be aware that the entity itself will have much more to teach you than you ever anticipated, and there will likely need to be much more effort, work, and dedication to keep it all running.

At this juncture, just keep in mind that while you may feel the impulse to hurry up and act now--in reality, there is no rush. That sense of panic is merely the modicum of control our ego had getting sucked into that cosmic void. Relax, take your time, don't fret--there's no need to--the universe supports us in going back and making sure that things are on the right track--and to also shake things up, and get things going in a different evolutionary direction so that we don't suffocate from stagnation. Keep an extremely open mind, be in a state of absolute receptivity and humility as best you can, and realize that the universe has an intention and plan for us, if only we'd just get out of the way. Let everyone else burn out if they need to, but know that you're much the wiser ;-)

The Sabian symbol for this Full Moon reads....

"A swimming race"

This is an interesting symbol for the symbolic peak of Mars retrograde, seeing as Mars is what would drive such an affair. Mars, however, isn't too fond of the water element, Mars in any water sign tends to get a bit diluted (sometimes with the exception of Scorpio). A swimming race brings to mind a large body of water, individuals splashing around, water being flung into the air--people coming up for a breath briefly, maybe some cheering--it's all pretty wet. A swimming race usually takes place in a very short amount of time, I imagine this paroxysm of splashing about--followed by a scene of water calming and slowing down, bubbles simmering, frothing. While this image brings to mind the notion of competition, I don't really get too much of that from swimming. In other words, I imagine the swimmer, in that moment and burst of action--sort of in their own world, simply because they're submerged--there's not much paying attention to the other swimmers.

I get the feeling this symbol also deals with emotions, with psychic energies, given the obvious connection of water to the spiritual realm. Perhaps this image suggests a process of moving through emotions, just diving in and allowing oneself to be immersed in it, to really feel it, to get to the source of such feelings. Also the sense of competition, not for the end result of "winning" per say, but the idea of sport for fun, just because. Simply achieving something for the experience of doing it, for oneself, or maybe, for a greater cause beyond personal gain. So while this image suggests a race of sorts, and many will surely be impulsed with this archetype of urgency and competitiveness, I feel the deeper message is found in the water element as the foundation, the medium through which these swimmers compete. I get the sense of winning a race without too much effort, urgency, fear, or motivation--rather, winning the race because it is one's destiny to do so. There is a larger force which is assisting--and all we have to do is show up, and literally get carried along.....because in the end, we're already there.

Full Moon Effect:
We may feel we have a greater attention span, able to zoom in with super critical perception. Especially occurring so close to Mars retrograde, we may feel impulsed toward organization, cleaning, straightening up, integrating, and putting things together and in their proper place. This is an excellent time to focus on projects or tasks which require a great amount of attention to detail--we can focus more heavily on the process and each step of the way. Use this time to be of service to others somehow--in fact, many may feel quite useless unless they are of some assistance now. Others may be more critical or hypersensitive to criticism under this influence, as well as being very one sided in their thinking, or focused on some project or task. This is a good time to make more sense out of things, and to bring some extra order and cleanliness into your life.  We may also experience more of a concern with health, nutrition, and more effective ways of nourishing our bodies. In fact, this is an excellent time to tune in more deeply to one's body and its subtle communication signals.

Venus in Taurus/Conjunction With Jupiter

Venus moves into Taurus on March 5th (til April 4th, entering Gemini the day Mercury turns direct), joining Jupiter in this earthy and grounded sign. With Venus in Taurus, collective tastes and preferences lean more toward the more subtle, peaceful, serene, relaxing---sort of more inclined toward a zen like ambiance. Since Venus is quite at home in this sign (from which she rules), we can anticipate more of a concern and inclination toward finances, possessions, resources--physical things as well as abilities and capacities which makes us valuable and skillful. Venus in Taurus inclines us toward focusing more on our own value system, and what it is that we place importance and significance toward.

As Venus closes in on Jupiter, peaking March 13th, we will feel this influence quite strongly. There may be a strong desire to indulge oneself in myriad ways, and the usual warning over not over-doing it is in order here. This is an excellent time to relax, unwind, maybe get a massage--or go outdoors, connect with nature, really take the opportunity to stop and smell the proverbial roses. The natural world and its inherent beauty are all enhanced under this influence, so take the opportunity to get out and about more than you usually do. This energy perfectly compliments the other symbols which are active at this time, and further reinforce the need to take things easy, do things step by step--and to be methodical and meticulous with everything. Enjoy the beauty of life, take the time to cultivate it and surround yourself with it. Keep in mind that there is no shame in indulging in the pleasures of the world, as long as they're functional of course.

This cycle may also be quite advantageous financially for some of us, depending upon whether we are more personally effected by it. Venus goes retrograde in May, which often correlates to a cycle of monetary sluggishness. As I mentioned above, however, retrogrades tend to bring the inverse influx from the norm--so individuals who have been struggling financially may experience a reverse or shift in this energy during Venus retrograde, and likely also during this particular cycle and conjunction with Jupiter. For whichever way the wheel is turning, this is an excellent time to expand your resources, and there will plenty of opportunities floating about to do so--this is not just financial as in money, but also material goods, services, and capabilities. Of course, the only way to attract such opportunities is to be in a state of complete receptivity--so open up, allow yourself to receive the great bounty of the planet--the earth mother shares all.

Mercury Retrograde in Aries/Pisces 2012

February 26th- April 4th 2012

Initially in Aries, Mercury retrograde connects us to Mars, who also happens to be retrograde--so it's as if Mercury is taking all that stuff we've been strengthening and building up (over the past month or so), and mentalizes it--reconsiders it, revises, reworks it, thinks it over--makes more sense out of it intellectually--like writing it out or sharing ideas with others. This is very valuable time to really connect with impulses, desires, and most of all--addictive habits and behaviors. Mars retrograde is notorious for bringing up these issues within us, and now with Mercury retrograde, we can reflect much more deeply on what's come up over the past month or so. Pay attention to what drives you, and see if you can reflect on the root of those motivations, whatever they may be. Where do they stem from? Do they seemingly control your actions and behavior?

Mars retrograde is a bit easier on us, in the sense that it tends to be much more obvious in what it's doing--we can see those events unfolding for a mile away if we payed much attention. Mercury retrograde, however, enjoys carrying around that metaphoric wrench, and you never know where he'll throw it (usually at your head, when your back is turned). Used productively, we can take this time to go back over things, to be more precise, more thorough--making sure everything is in line. Whatever breaks down now, falls apart, etc......is simply revealing to us the flaws which we have ignored for too long, and it's the natural time to address these things. Naturally, Mercury retrograde tends to bring up all kinds of mechanical breakdowns, technical failures, setbacks, and minor annoyances. These things tend to escalate the more we fight against the flow. But sometimes, it's just the natural time for check-ups and tune-ups of all kinds, and Mercury just likes to help out by bringing it all to our attention ;-) The best advice--surrender, seriously. You will find that by just kicking back, throwing up your hands, and saying....OK universe, show me--all will be well--for the most part.

All these mixed and coalescing energies can feel confusing, it is likely that one part of us wants to push forward so badly--and yet another part doesn't know where the hell it's going. This occurs right in the midst of the Spring Equinox, which is usually this ideal time for new beginnings. Well it is, really, there is a lot of new energy cropping up here--but if you look carefully, it is really a new beginning with the past. All these symbols point to a process which is occurring collectively and individually, that is bringing a new beginning to past constructs. Many flashbacks, people, situations, memories--from this life or another, are likely to really crop up consistently in the first half of the year, begging for our attention. Logically then, we can conclude that this is a time for closing and completing cycles, chapters, relations, karma, connections, ties--it is a time to process, integrate, and move on into the new beginning just around the corner.

Mercury will conjoin Uranus during its retrograde, which will peak on March 18th. Hold on tight for this one, you don't get an electrifying omen like that everyday. This cycle has the potential to be a shocker, which could be quite stimulating--this is a time to seriously keep an open mind--because if anything, Uranus hates solidification on any matter. Let loose, open up, and ultimately--let go of your preconceived notions. This is an excellent time for breaking out of the mold, experimenting, trying things out, and seeing what new perspectives they offer you. There is such opportunity this cycle to really free yourself, really connect to yourself authentically, and learn to love and embrace who you really are. On the practical end, it might be wise to clear your computer up a bit--get that anti-virus software you've been thinking about, run your Spy Bot Search and Destroy, or back up those files your intuition keeps bugging you about--consider enhancing your technological boundaries. I'm not saying there will be surge of hackers coming at everyone, but I definitely get the feel that such issues will likely arise, or at least in metaphor.

This could also manifest as a sudden identity crisis--or we may find ourselves sorting out the details of our self image, and all the fragments that make up our identity. Perhaps needing to break out of the mold of how others have perceived us, and creating a whole new image. Perhaps reconsidering our impact on others, and how to uniquely define ourselves, our internal drives, and passions. Going deep into our inner workings to really see ourselves as fragments of all creation, and the responsibility we share. With the conjunction with Uranus, this will likely allow us to reconsider our connection to technology, such as technological devices, systems, etc. Perhaps we get more involved with it--or conversely, realize that too much techno saturation is keeping us from what we really need to be doing, and feel the need to withdraw and find out who we are. Most of all, it feels, that the most complications and turmoil we experience this cycle will likely stem directly from our own actions, and hubris. It would be wise to think before you speak, or before commencing with anything you are aggressively pushing or pursuing.....really reflect deeply on things before acting.

Above all, let go of who or what you think you are, and let the universe show you some alternatives. Some may feel very weak, drained, and unmotivated at this time--and if so, it's likely you've been striving and pushing for a bit too long, and it's time for a break. On the other end, this particular cycle, with the inclusion of Mars retrograde, could kick some into high gear, feeling more motivated and ready for action after a period of stagnation or rest. Whichever end of the spectrum you're on, don't fight or second guess yourself, go with your intuition, and let it all guide you.

Mercury retrogrades into Pisces on March 23rd, switching its rulership over to Neptune--whom we are quite well acquainted with this lunation. As Mercury dips into nebulous Pisces for the remainder of the retrograde, there may be another influx of spaciness, confusion, mystery, paranoia, or uncertainty. Conversely, this process could allow for enhanced intuition, psychic receptivity, miraculous synchronicities, and an ability to "see behind the veil" a bit more deeply. Again, with the remainder of the retrograde process, it would be wise to heed Neptune's greatest-lesson.........surrender! If things become unclear, foggy, or if everything appears intangible--just disengage from trying to figure it out and let the universe show you--paying attention to everything around, allow yourself to see the inter connectivity in all creation and how each event is apart of grand and intelligent unfolding of consciousness.

There are several significant dates during Mercury's retrograde cycle as follows....

February 26- Mercury enters shadow--Circumstances and events which transpire in the initial shadow, will give us clues as to what we will be revising, reconsidering, revamping, renovating, etc during the rest of the retrograde process.

March 12- Mercury goes retrograde @ 06 degrees Aries 49'

March 18- Mercury  conjunct Uranus--This is an electrifying archetypal configuration. On one end, prepare for Mercury's trickery to hone in on techno gadgetry--and on the other, opportunities to radically alter perceptions, through sudden insights, breakthroughs, or discoveries which could greatly affect one's worldview, their place in the world, or how they impact the larger world. Pay attention to sudden revelations about yourself, such as self presentation, image, projection, etc....and look for ways to radically alter or change how you initiate action, or present yourself to others.

March 21- Mercury conjunct Sun--Mercury meets the Sun near the Aries point, which is the Spring Equinox epicenter. Events which stimulate this point have wide reaching effects which can impact the whole world--pay attention to Mercury's influence to be coated in collective events in the days surrounding this date. As Mercury moves into Pisces, this suggests many of these events will not be what they appear to be--look for the truth behind appearances.

March 23- Mercury Retrogrades into Pisces--Mercury's archetype shifts backwards into the sometimes placid, and sometimes magnificently miraculous waters of mystery. This phase of the cycle will focus more heavily on getting behind the truth of things, uncovering hidden secrets, knowledge, and information lying dormant in our lives and psyches.

March 29- Mercury sextile Venus--For the most part, a mild combination--perhaps allowing for a time to revise financial or relationship issues.

April 4- Mercury goes direct at @ 23 Pisces 51'

April 16- Mercury re-enters Aries- If you've felt stagnate, drained, blocked, fatigued, inhibited, during the coalescing of Mars and Mercury retrograde, then this will mark a period where energy will likely return collectively, circumstances will begin flowing back to normal and more in the favor of aggressive action and forward movement. Mars goes direct two days prior, on April 14th.

April 23- Mercury leaves shadow--This is, for the most, the completion of the cycle, and situations and events which occurred from April 4th to this point represent the finishing up phase, where we are tying up loose ends and putting things in place.

Ultimately, this Mercury retrograde cycle allows us to turn more inwardly, to reflect upon ourselves and our abilities. We may discover insights which allow us to see how truly capable, and how powerful we really are. True strength comes from within, from the preservation of our inner reserves, talents, and capacities. "Doing, doing, doing" isn't always productive, sometimes it has us going in circles without really going anywhere. Trust that you can actually move forward, you can actually grow and evolve by sometimes not doing too much at all--going within, deeply reflecting, allowing the universe to reflect back its timeless beauty, it's endless wonder and mystique. There are many paths toward growth, success, and achievement, and not all of them conform to our society's pre-made image. Trust that you can lead your life, by sometimes letting the universe take the reins. Conversely, if you feel impelled toward action, be mindful of doing things carefully, piece by piece, step by step. This is a good time to be methodical, and allow yourself the time to hone in on what you want to achieve. This is a highly useful time for preparation, so relax, and then make use of it.

 Additional Mercury Retrograde Tips

--Practice impeccability, be very clear and sincere when communicating with others--you may need to go over or repeat things more than once to make sure there isn't any confusion.

--Double check all transactions and dealings, especially when it comes to money, and especially if the process is electronic. Don't just trust that things will work out or function as usual, it doesn't hurt to pay extra attention.

--Go over things in your mind that you know need to be fixed, adjusted, or serviced--cars, computers, appliances, etc....before and during the retrograde. Mainly anything that you consider to be important for things to function more smoothly, or could be costly if broken down.

--Avoid making serious or major agreements, such as signing contracts, or making big business dealings. Take this time to reconsider other options before jumping into action right away.

--Keep an open mind when dealing with others, especially when it comes to opinions or advice--there may be much to learn that you didn't know or understand before. Practice humility and receptivity.

--Be patient, just know that things are not going to flow or move as they usually do--so practicing patience by remaining calm if things "go wrong" can reduce a lot of unnecessary stress, anxiety, or confusion.

--If you find yourself coming up against resistance in attempting to make something happen, try backing off, and allowing things to work out on their own.

--Focus mainly on the "Re" prefix--any activity which incorporates doing something over or making adjustments--all such activities are highly favored and will be successful: Revising, reworking, reassessing, revamping, reconfiguring, resettling, reverting, refurbishing, reapplying, reassembling, reassociating, reattaining, refocusing, remembering, regrouping, reclaiming, repairing, reducing, replacing, reconnecting, rekindling, etc......

--Keep a sense of humor, and approach things from a playful mentality--this is the natural time to experiment without much attachment to the outcome. Allow yourself to be guided more now, you will be surprised with where things lead you and how they end up.

New Moon In Pisces 2012

New Moon @ 02 degrees Pisces
Feb 21, 2012
5:34 PM Eastern
2:34 PM Pacific

This new moon stands as a symbolic gateway--the configurations beckon for our awareness, luring us deeper into the numinous and unseen. What truly lies behind the veil, beneath the illusion we call "reality"? What's really going on? What's really happening--is anyone in control? When faced with the seemingly insurmountable climb toward higher perception, truth, or "enlightenment"--we realize in our struggle that no one is in control--control is an illusion--that everything is mostly "beingness" in motion, and that life is a spiral, a pathway of evolution through which we may never truly grasp the end of the line--for it spins, it churns, infinitely, for all eternity. Such is our role--to dance beside the universe, to flow, to spiral both downward and upward in conscious surrender. This New Moon invites us to look deeply at our delusions. Where have we lost sight of our dance partner, the universe, and gone off creating our own steps--which, in our ingrained sense of superiority--are perceived more advanced than the original choreography.

Neptune joins the New Moon is Pisces--further exacerbating this intangible influx--everything seems to slip right though our hands. What can we hold on to now? What can we look to for solace, comfort, or support? When the floor beneath your feet melts into oblivion, where do you stand? This sense of "fogginess" or uncertainty prescribed to the Piscean archetype is a force we must all face at some point in our lives--we must confront the truth. What is the truth? With so many who claim to have different versions, it can be challenging to get clear--but that's what we need right now, absolute clarity. The pursuit of truth, is the path of healing. Both the quest for health and the pursuit of truth are inevitably intwined within the same internal process, each challenges the other. Astrologically, the quest for truth and understanding represented by the polarity of Gemini/Sagittarius is in tension (90 degrees) to the quest for healing/integration and transcendence inherent to the polarity of Pisces/Virgo. Both polarities ignite evolution through their interaction. In order to heal, we must first let go. Let go of what? Let go of what isn't real.

What's real, what's true, is beautiful. Truth leads us to beauty--but--beauty is deceptive, because many believe there are different versions, just as with truth. In my knowing, there is only one truth, one absolute indescribable truth. Everything else is delusion, a trap, seeking to pull us outward and away from what's always honest, real, and authentic. That truth lies within us, deep within us. It's not our thoughts, our ideas, or even our perceptions or experiences--because those are fluid and mutable. The truth is inside us, it is permanent--deep inside each of us, and we know it. We know the truth when we choose to stare it straight in the eye--we know the truth because every fiber of our being resonates to its frequency. As above so below--the ancient hermetic axiom--the eternal truth. That's it. As above so below. We are all connected, everything and everyone. Nothing is disparate, all separation an illusion. All isolation, fear, loneliness, despair, worry, stress, anger, sadness, hunger--illusions--because we are always whole, perfect, and complete. Always.

How can we ever be alone, when we are always connected? With that said, the experience of pain or despair are our teachers, and they offer clues to what needs to be released, what needs to go. If we surrender to these feelings as opposed to judging them, we can follow their lead toward the wounds within us, to the empty spaces that need to be filled with awareness and compassion. Pain brings awareness, and awareness leads to knowledge, which leads us to evolution--and thus we move deeper along the spiral.

There is a powerful force inside each of us, and it's calling for us everyday. Trust it. Let it guide you. The truth knows the way. Pain and despair result from our resistance to truth--ignited by contraction, withdrawl--and psychologically, our inability to let go. Why are we afraid to let go? Because of our illusion of control, our sense of rightness about what we think is the truth--because we are afraid to surrender our illusions--to let go of what isn't real. And that's it. We have a choice. To surrender to our pain, or to numb it out and go back to the illusion. There is no right or wrong answer, because each offers lessons. Both surrender and the illusion of control are pathways toward evolution. Both allow us to fall or ascend the spiral, the great dance of life--and on it goes. Who's to say any one direction is either "good" or "bad", all is relative.

This new moon is very striking, seeing as it conjoins Neptune, after having recently ingressed into Pisces--forming a stellium along with Pallas (Athena) and Chiron. Hmm.....this has the sense of digging out deep wounds, ingrained delusions, and the ultimate truth from the depths of the unconscious--or perhaps, dredging up the haunting images and memories of the past. Needless to say, there could be a lot of residual wounds opening up now, allowing us to peer into them, to integrate them, and to ultimately find resolution and healing. We are also given an opportunity for beginning a process of understanding the root or genesis of our pain, wounds, and inflictions. This New Moon is the seed, meaning it is igniting a process which will unfold over time. Conversely we are equally offered the experience of transcedence, if we can allow ourselves to surrender our control, and simply be guided by our inner truth--our inner bliss.

Mercury and Mars retrograde are in opposition--which will peak Febuary 23. Look out for others who may be argumentative, combative, or angry--or impulsing one to debate with them--perhaps over their version of the truth. Be mindful of this tendency within yourself. In communicating with others try not to get swamped by a stampeade of petty details--because none of that is going to solve anything, it'll just make things more confusing. Instead, take a deep breath, center yourself, and really connect with the inner truth--trust that it is there, and that it will guide you. Speaking from the truth, allows us to simplfy all the non-essentials that create too much noise and distortion. This New Moon can be an opportunity to create more clarity and to shed more light on certain issues in our lives--creating a new cycle which puts us in synch with the higher truth.

Saturn retrograde in Libra trines the New Moon stellium--showing that powerful teachings can be revealed by seeing these past wounds, delusions, and truths reflected in those we relate to--and those around us. Often when presented with this material we're triggered, a part of us seeks to flee away or become angry at the person because they're exposing something deep within ourselves, something we need to let go of. Take a deep look at all that is being shown to you in your immediate environment now--these are the revelations and insights that will help catalyze deep healing. Don't judge it, condemn it, or run-away from what shows up--embrace it , respect it,  have tolerance, and compassion for it--because it's apart of you. Nothing is disparate. But also, this could be an opportunity to set boundaries with these forces, through these people, by not allowing ourselves to succumb to their influence once more. Sometimes, looking back at yourself, where you were, can be painful because in hindsight we are able to see our delusions and how we were once lost within them. Accept that there are no mistakes, there are only lessons along the spiral, the great dance of life. And see it all as beautiful--because it's the truth.

Psychic receptivity and intuition are also enhanced now, and this is an excellent time to really go within--tune into yourself and all the subtle impulses within your body and mind. I feel this configuration is somewhat of a map to the transit of Neptune through Pisces (2012-2026). I wrote briefly about this in my last post Full Moon in Leo 2012. Combining this influence with the upcoming square off between Uranus and Pluto (2012-2015), a very interesting showdown is likely to emerge--a countercultural "revolution" fermented with a sense of spiritual reverance and undertone. Wow, what will that look like? Well it's obvious we are all collectively being impulsed back to the womb, back to the mother--there is this insatiable urge deep within us all that is calling us home, so to speak. It feels that as a society we've come to a point of maximum seperation from source--which doesn't mean we won't seperate further, but that many are needing to wake up to this reality for balance to occur. This is likely to manifest as a return to the earth mother, to natural ways, and to seeking out more conscious lifestyles--which is already happening.

It can also mean that our culture has become spiritually dead, devoid of any deeper meaning for the soul (you don't need me to tell you that one.) As a result of this, we are collectively starving for transcendence--apparently starkbucks, facebook, 9-5 jobs, and sub-literate films every weekend don't exactly feed your soul. The frightening ploy is that this sense of emptiness can be easily, and artificially, fulfilled by social movements which work to sweep up those most desperate for change. So my conclusion is to be weary--take a higher path of the Piscean influx, which is to go within--to plunge off the precipice to find the truth within, not without. But like I said, both paths offer lessons.

Take some time to yourself this new moon, get centered and focused, and integrate. Surrender to this powerful force. However, let us be mindful of confusing conscious surrender with unconscious submission. We must take action in life in order for change to happen, and we must do something with insights or revelations received. It's not enough to simply ponder them, eventually we must put them into action in some way, implement them into our own lives. With that said however, this New Moon is about receiving, and being more receptive to the incoming input of the universe. It is likely very challenging to take much action now, because things are so unclear--but the potential is to work through the haze. With Mars retrograde we are still very much in this process of reinforcing and strengthening various aspects of our lives, making sure our position is stronger with something we've already been working on.

Allow yourself to receive, be open, keep your eyes and ears peeled--the universe has much to teach us now if we can quiet our minds and just listen. Most importantly of all, be humble, and realize that not everything is available to make sense of it all at the moment, surrender to the process. The great unfolding of life, the journey along the spiral, has an intention and knows what it's doing. Trust it. There so much more to add to your life, so much more richness and above all, beauty to be had all around. But in order for one to embrace the new, to take in the truth--you first have to let go of what's in your hand.

Full Moon in Leo 2012

Full Moon @ 18 degrees Leo
Feb 07, 2012
4:53 PM Eastern
1:53 PM Pacific

The Full Moon in Leo is a fiery force--expanding deep passions, opening the heart, and releasing waves of creative joy into the collective psyche. We can feel this burst of passion explode within us, this ecstatic child-like vibration. The inner child is strong now, urging us to come out and play--consciously of course. With the Sun, naturally, in Aquarius, conjunct Mercury--we are able to fuse mental objectivity with the spontaneity of the heart center--basically to bridge the heart and mind as one. This is a beautiful synergy in which we are able to play, to unfold organically while not getting lost in irrationality or impracticalities, we can objectively create our desires--but ideally, we are experimenting and trying things out, no need to attach yourself to any one particular path. With Saturn (co-ruler of Aquarius) turning retrograde just before this Full Moon, we can anticipate a lot of restructuring, already fueled by Mars retrograde in Virgo, to amplify.

While Saturn is retrograde from Feb 7-June 25th, we are urged to really reinforce our boundaries--to lay down the law so to speak. Now is the time to reinforce the whole structure, and to better solidify the support systems we have put into place. That means new projects and creations aren't necessarily favored now, especially if we plan on launching them. That doesn't mean that what we're wanting to push forward won't ever work out, but that simply there will be much more work to attend to if we do decide to put things into action now--but ideally, this is a time to further support and enhance what's already been put into motion through our intentions, actions, efforts, etc. (In other words, this is an excellent time to add on to, adjust, or make more efficient those processes we've already started but that need to change). Saturn turning retrograde on the anaretic degree of Libra, inconjunct Venus (conjunct Uranus) at the anaretic degree of Pisces--shows something is about to explode--a powerful liberating, ecstatic, and revolutionary transformation of a relationship, or the way we relate to others on a personal or business level, or even with our resources or values (what we identify with)--we can almost taste it. Saturn going backwards shows that this is an ideal time to, again, reinforce boundaries, to clear the decks, and to make sure we are truly ready for deep and powerful change. How committed are you? Do you really want it?

There are likely many things that need to be reconsidered, practiced, revised, trained, and re-established--and if we can be highly conscious at this time about everything that comes to our attention, we can find amazing transformations awaiting later this summer! What kinds of commitments have you made, to others or to yourself? Now is a time to rework them,  look them over deeply to see if you can truly follow through now. Making change means really pushing through that threshold of comfort and familiarity--not falling back on old habits, beliefs, patterns, or what have you. Saturn really wants to go deep in Scorpio, to really tear down and get to work releasing and dumping all that modly crap we're holding on to--but we must be ready for it, as individuals and as a collective. Trust the universe, trust the process--don't give in to mindless self-assertion or impulsive action--fuse your heart and your mind, both can work together quite beautifully now, and this new moon is illuminating that reality for us.

The sabian symbol for this Full Moon reads:

A houseboat party

This image reveals a social gathering, a party, upon a houseboat. Hm....simple enough. Let's see, a houseboat. Well that means this is a dwelling for someone to live on, which means that it is likely, for the most part, stationary--houseboats aren't going to fare well sailing the seven seas or choppy waters. Such a vessel requires calm, peaceful, and stable waters to function optimally. Perhaps this image suggests the ability to mingle with others while centered in our safety and stability--socializing or "having some fun" while also being practical about it--maintaining control and being conscious to not get carried away by impulses. This is interesting considering the duality of Leo and Aquarius, with the Sun conjunct Mercury. Allowing our passion and excitement for something to emerge, while also keeping our cool and remaining objective through the process. When we imagine a party, we often think of some wild crazy drunken all nighter--although this image presents something quite different. Can we be passionate about something, can we fill ourselves with energetic excitement without allowing such emotions to take us over? Can we feel emotions without allowing them to carry us away? Conversely, can we be amongst other "party-goers" while not particularly engaging in the activities around us, staying in our calm centered space?

Neptune In Pisces

Neptune has recently moved into Pisces, as of February 3rd. This is a pretty big cultural shift, and it is interesting that Neptune has essentially "come home" to its own sign in the year of 2012, which has been anticipated as this "transition" of consciousness--whatever that means exactly. There are many who claim to know--I'm not particularly one of them, although I have my own ideas and hunches about it. Neptune is often touted by astrologers as this "elusive", ambigious, and mysterious force--well I suppose that's true, but so are all the planets in my opinion--so is the whole world we're surrounded by. I feel Neptune is simply the realization of the inherent limitations of our perception, that we will never truly, nor fully "get it", because there's always this force which will essentially dissipate our illusions/delusions to reveal more complexity within the system as we evolve--Neptune basically smacks the hubris right out of us. That's interesting, because it seems that while Neptune was transiting Aquarius, while also in a mutual reception with Uranus in Pisces, our collective hubris seeminlgy increased--along with our technology and control of the reality around us.

I don't know if it's just me, but it seems the collective psyche, the consensus thought patterns of most individuals during this transit were imbued with this sense of certainty about our "knowledge" of the world, mostly fueled, in my opinion, by the internet. We also had this naivete about knowledge, this sense that just because "all knowledge" is at our fingertips somehow makes it all accurate. So we saw this whole collective fashion of being in the know, and everyone (myself included) spouting various factoids about this or that. What I've realized is that knowledge is more than just reading an article or a website and then thinking we have the answers, knowledge is experiential--and we must cross reference it as well as get our hands dirty with the information. In my opinion, Neptune in Pisces will assist in shattering this hubris, this certainty of knowing what's really going on--this is an opportunity to take a good hard look at our collective delusions. Science, technology, and the scientific method itself (whatever that means these days), are ruled and governed by the sign Aquarius and its planetary ruler Uranus--but eventually that evolves into Pisces and Neptune--which is this "ambiguous" and "elusive" force. Hmm.....well it's the realization that we'll never, again, totally get what's going on, and inevitably, the more our technology and methods evolve, the more they lead us into this unfathomable abyss of mystery which is the great ethereal sea of Pisces.

I'd like to share a brief transmission on the nature of this transit which will last from 2012 through 2026:

Cultural fashions fermented with the idealization of knowledge, technology, and networking under a sense of common unity will be replaced by a strong and alluring desire for transcendence, the uncovering of secrets=conspiracy, spiritual revival, and the need to connect more deeply with the mysteries which underlie the natural world--and our place within it. Neptune is at home in its own sign--and thus this desire to return to the womb of innocence will underlie our collective psychology. Let us not confuse this need for ultimate surrender, for safety in the womb of a higher cosmic force, with an unconscious dissolving of our boundaries to governments and false gods whom merely wear the mask of omnipotence. The political/spiritual vision of Marx was birthed under the last transit of Neptune in Pisces (1847- 1862), and thus we are likely to see its inevitable solidity as it possesses our world leaders. To quote evolutionary astrologer Maurice Fernandez regarding the synthesis of the Neptune and Pisces archetypes:

"There is a need to realize that one does not surrender to something that promises safety and perfection. Instead, one surrenders as an act of service to the challenging global endeavor to promote the cause of life. Therefore, there is a requirement to be engaged and take responsibility in the process, instead of seeking ease or simplicity in that surrendering." - Neptune, The Twelfth House, and Pisces: The End of Hope, Beginning of Truth
Let us now look deeply at the truth behind the veil of the natural world, to find our notion of God within all the fragments of the hologram we are but embedded--for that is where we will find the solutions to our current crisis. Beware of political/scientific ideologies which are merely religions in disguise--ideas which claim to be the ultimate truth. Surrender to Earth, to life, to truth, and ultimately--to the ever expanding and evolving state of the universe in constant change and motion. No one will ever have the ultimate answer or salvation, for each step is merely one part of the process. In our "surrender" let us not fall victim to a passive acceptance of the world the way that it is, or a delusion that we are the savior of earth or of others. Each of us is a metaphor of Earth, of Gaia, and as we nurture, nourish, and heal ourselves through an active process of growth and learning, so does the world change around us--and true evolution occurs.

conscious bliss in the great unfolding.
